1. The One-Minute TIP

Why not make 2003 your best year ever? To do that, narrow
your focus to a few key essentials that you memorize, that
you commit to, and which you WILL achieve. You cannot do
everything, so don't try. Say no to distractions and
seductive time-wasters. Focus on your key essentials.
Come back to them, work on them, achieve them!

2. Welcome Notes

This is a wonderful time of year! I love the bright
lights, the cards and greetings and good cheer. I hope
that wherever you are and however you celebrate, that this
is a time of peace, love and joy for you and your loved
ones.

I particularly want to greet our thousands of subscribers
in Australia. This week, many people wrote to remind me of
the drought and fires that have ravaged your country, and
you are in our thoughts and prayers. I understand there
was some rain around Sydney this week, and that was good
news indeed!

Be sure to try "ZingBack", the best thing to happen to the
telephone in 100 years! The info is free, it's fun, there's
no risk, and it will make your life easier and your business
more profitable -- I promise! I absolutely love it and
encourage everyone - yes, that means YOU! - to get all the
info. Send an email to: Zing@philiphumbert.com
ZingBack saves time and it's just plain COOL!

Also, I'm offering my Road to Riches class in January and I
hope you'll sign up! Start the year with a plan for your
financial future! Save money! Invest wisely. You CAN
reach your financial goals and this class can help!
http://philiphumbert.com/Riches.htm

Finally, let's have some fun! After 5 years, I'm thinking
of changing the name of TIP's, and I'm sponsoring a
contest. To enter, send your BEST, most exciting and
descriptive suggestions to: Name@philiphumbert.com
The rules are simple - the name may NOT contain the word
"success" and I get to choose the winner. The winner gets a
set of my tapes, a pass to my classes, a gift certificate to
Amazon.com, and other cool stuff I haven't thought of yet, but
it'll be pretty significant. (If there are multiple winners,
they will split the prize.) Give me a hand - give me a title!

For more FREE tools and resources for your success, be sure
to check the "Resources" section, below!

Remember, you are always encouraged to forward TIP's to
anyone who might enjoy it. Your recommendation is how we
grow. Just hit the "Forward" button on your email, and
send it to as many folks as you'd like. Thanks!

3:  To Reach Your Goals, Focus on the Essentials

There's an old Buddhist saying that, "the way you do
anything is the way you do everything." The point is that
from pouring tea, to chopping wood, to building a career,
life has a pattern to it, and we can learn from watching
our own patterns.

Especially during the holidays, we can get so caught up
doing "everything" that that we forget to focus on the
essentials. We get so busy wrapping presents that we
forget to hug our kids. In trying to do "everything", we
become stressed, get distracted and ultimately we fail to
live our own lives, and that is true failure.

For 25 years, I've been working with highly successful
people, from athletes to business people, to successful
parents and highly successful artists, writers and
political leaders. During that time, there have been many
lessons and many distinctions, but one KEY distinction
stands above all the rest. It is this:

HIGHLY SUCCESSFUL PEOPLE DO LESS THAN THE REST OF US!

Of course they ACHIEVE more. They win the awards, they out-
sell and out-perform their peers. And yes, they work very
hard, but over-all, they do much LESS than the average
person, and that is astonishing!

They have discovered the word, "no".

They do not volunteer for every committee. They "deprive"
themselves of many of life's good and delightful things,
but it's vital to notice that they also report having more
satisfaction, more fulfillment and more peace of mind than
the rest of us. They are truly "on to something", and it
makes all the difference.

They do LESS than the rest of us!

Highly successful people know their "essentials" and they
are always focused on the achievement of those few things.

Olympic gymnasts are good examples precisely because they
must start so young. Most of them are in high school when
they reach the top of their careers, and they get up early,
practice before school, after school, and every weekend.
When their friends are going to dances and ball games and
movies, they are preparing for competition. When their
classmates are watching TV or going on dates, they are in
bed, preparing for 5:00 AM practices.

To win an Olympic medal means knowing your core essentials
and saying no to many wonderful things.

What are your ESSENTIALS?

Highly successful people have a very small number of items
that are essential to success in their career, in their
personal life and in their family life. Brian Tracy says
there are always less than 7 items on this list, and I
suspect he is right.

The most successful people have one or two things that are
critical to their career and they focus all their efforts
on those things. They write them down and permit little or
no distraction. They may have a couple of keys for their
family, their health or their finances, but there are VERY
few of these. The total list, from every area of life,
should fit on a small card, which they often carry in their
wallet and refer to it through the day.

Why not make 2003 best year ever? To do that, narrow your
focus to a few key essentials that you memorize, that you
commit to, and which you WILL achieve. You cannot do
everything, so don't try. Say no to distractions and
seductive time-wasters. Focus on your key essentials.
Come back to them, work on them, achieve them!

Is financial success one of your core essentials?
If so, please consider my Road to Riches class, which
begins on Jan 6th. To get all the info and register, visit:

4. Quotes of the Week

"Everyone has inside of him a piece of good news. The good news
is that you don't know how great you can be! How much you can love!
What you can accomplish! And what your potential is!"
                                                -- Anne Frank

"The only limits are, as always, those of vision."
                                                -- James Broughton

"All greatness is achieved while performing outside your comfort zone."
                                                -- Greg Arnold

"The biggest human temptation is to settle for too little."
                                                -- Thomas Merton

5. Strictly Business:  Operating from Super Abundance

It has long been said that the number one reason for
business failure is a lack of capital. Businesses and
professionals simply run out of money before they are able
to attract the customers and generate sufficient revenue to
maintain the business. In the end, they close their doors.

I have two key observations about this:

1. Most businesses lack capital, but it is rarely cash.
In my experience, far more small businesses, professionals
and managers suffer from a lack of intellectual capital.
They don't know their industry, or their customers. They
lack vision and passion, or they lack experience. Perhaps
they are too greedy, and lack patience. Sometimes, they
lack wisdom or integrity, and their performance suffers
until ultimately the business fails.

With adequate experience and a solid business plan, the
cash is usually available. The more common problem is an
intellectual failure.

2. When you operate from "lack", everyone knows it and
potential customers flee. Whether you are worried about
cash or simply realize that you don't know what you're doing,
it shows up as "trying". You "try" to close the sale, or
you "try" to market or you "try" to find a solution.
Trying is rarely attractive, and customers can sense it.

Become an expert in your industry or profession. Develop
the confidence that you KNOW what you're doing and that
you come from a place of abundance.

This is one reason highly successful entrepreneurs hire
coaches and consultants. They know that coming from a
place of abundance shows up in every word and every action,
and ultimately creates more and greater abundance.

An example? For years I "tried" to create a shopping cart
and passive income from my website. I spent money, I spent
time, I "tried" very hard. Then, I found a system that
makes it simple, easy and extremely successful. It created
a momentum and enthusiasm that changed everything! And
THAT's why I recommend you check out:  The System

7. Humor:  Fun With HMO's

For our over-seas subscribers who may not know what an HMO
is (lucky you!), it stands for a common form of health
insurance organization in the U.S. Unfortunately, many
people have had bad experiences, and her are just some of
the reasons why:

Q. What does HMO stand for?
A. This is actually a variation of the phrase, 'Hey, Moe!'
Its roots go back to a concept pioneered by Dr. Moe Howard
of "The Three Stooges" who discovered that a patient could
be made to forget about the pain in his foot if he was poked
hard enough in the eyes.

Q. I just joined an HMO. How difficult will it be to choose
the doctor I want?
A. Just slightly more difficult than choosing your parents.

Q. Do all diagnostic procedures require pre-certification?
A. No. Only those you need.

Q. Can I get coverage for my preexisting conditions?
A. Certainly, as long as they don't require any treatment.

Q. What happens if I want to try alternative forms of medicine?
A. You'll need to find alternative forms of payment.

Q. My pharmacy plan only covers generic drugs, but I need
the name brand. The generic form gave me a stomach ache.
What should I do?
A. Poke yourself in the eye.

Q. What if I'm away from home and I get sick?
A. You really shouldn't do that.

Q. I think I need to see a specialist, but my doctor insists
he can handle my problem. Can a general practitioner really
perform a heart transplant right in his office?
A. Hard to say, but since you're only risking the $10 co-
payment, there is no harm giving him a shot at it.

Q. Will health care be any different in the next century?
A. No. But if you call right now, you might get an
appointment by then.
