1. The One-Minute TIP

A World Class Life is marked by the quality of our
relationships and the quality and quantity of our
contribution in life. In the end, a WCL is about making a
difference, showing up, caring about people, and living
well. Our mission at Resources for Success(tm) is "to help

2. Welcome Notes

The events of this week put a pallor over everything
else, and there is no escaping the news and rumors of
war. I debated about doing a special issue, but right
or wrong, decided to stay with the articles I wrote.
May peace, and healing, come to our small planet.

A few days ago, I read David Bach's excellent book, "Smart
Couples Finish Rich". I read at least one new book on
personal finance each time I teach "The Road to Riches"
teleclass, and this is a GOOD one! It's a best-seller, and
I highly recommend it. Excellent material!

Taking charge of your finances, setting goals, and investing
wisely are fundamental. As past participants will recall,
I've said for years that almost EVERY American has the
ability to "finish rich". Bach makes the same point I've
made for years, that income is rarely the issue. The
problems are spending too much, saving too little, and
investing badly (or not at all). Make it a personal goal to
own at least a million dollars in assets. It's not difficult
and you owe it to yourself! Class begins April 7th!  Take Action!

Several people wrote about last week's trip to Chicago for
the Home-Based Business Summit and I want to remind
everyone that I love to provide the keynote or a workshop

3:  7 Steps to A World Class Life

<<< NOTE: Many people have inquired about the World Class
Life Conference in May, so I thought I would share the
outline for one of our sessions. This is only a small part
of the 3-day Conference, but it is central to building and
living the life of your dreams. You can get info and

Creating and living the life of your dreams is not "easy",
but it can be simple and straight-forward. You can almost
think of it as a recipe, with specific ingredients mixed in
a specific order until your ideal life emerges as the
predictable result of your skills and persistence. While
the process is easy to learn, it is also true that life
is complex and too often, complicated.

The distinction between "complex" and "complicated" is vital.
Most of us want a complex life, with a mix of work and play,
personal and professional activities. Complexity is part
of the richness of life. A complicated life, on the other
hand, is marked by stress and confusion. A complicated life
make us confused, ineffective and fearful.

Most of us enjoy "complexity", but "complications" are to
be avoided.

So with that introduction, here is my "recipe" for a World
Class Life:

1. Gratitude is the cure for lack.

The attitude of gratitude expands awareness, gives us
power, perspective, appreciation, humor, optimism and hope.
Gratitude allows us to focus on what IS, and that's an
essential distinction. We cannot work with what is absent.
Instead, we work with what is available to us. A World Class
Life is built on reality, not on dreams or wishes or envy.
Practice the attitude of gratitude. It's the foundation for
everything else.

2. Balance is the key to power.

Just as an athlete cannot perform if they are off-balance,
so individuals cannot create and respond and innovate if
they are off-balance. If, figuratively, your knees are
locked, your legs are rigid and you are tense, you cannot
"go with the flow" of life. First, strive for balance in
all things. This means, among other things:

*** Personal health and well-being. Take care of yourself

*** Practice extreme selfishness in all things. Be who you
are. Know thyself and to thine own self be true.

*** Eliminate tolerations, distractions, frustrations and
recurring stressors. Insist that your life is a "problem-
free zone".

*** Expand your boundaries. Do not allow people, things or
events to impinge on your personal space. Become
extremely skilled at defending your space!

*** Maintain super-reserves of all your essentials. From
details like extra toner for your printer or using a
shopping list, to getting plenty of rest, keep tons of
reserves on hand. Always.

3. Vision and Grandiosity set the direction.

Knowing where you're going and having the confidence that
you will surely arrive are half the battle. Most people
don't know where they are going. As Stephen Covey says,
"start with the end in mind" because it is ONLY the "end
that justifies the means". What are you living for? What do
you stand for? What is your mission or purpose in life, and
how will you know when you've arrived? Start with a vision
and never doubt your ability to fulfill it! You cannot do
everything and you cannot be everything other people want
you to be. Either you set your priorities, or others will
surely set them for you.

4. Strategies and plans are the building blocks of a World
Class Life.

Just, exactly, how are you going to do this? What will you
do first? Second? Third? Who will help you? Who will oppose
you, or compete with you, or disagree with you? If only a
handful of people ever set clear goals, even fewer develop
effective strategies and written blueprints for how they
will get there. Think about your strategies - are they
working? What strategies are most likely to work? What has
worked for other people and what can you learn from that?
Write this stuff down! Even a poor map is better than no
map at all, and you can always revise it, but without a set
of plans and strategies you will likely waste time, become
lost, and perhaps fail.

5. Goals, projects and benchmarks are your stepping stones
to the future.

Most studies show that only 3 to 4% of Americans have
written goals, and many of those people made the mistake of
setting their goals before they know WHY (see step 3) or
HOW their goals fit into an over-all strategy (see step 4).
Goals and benchmarks come AFTER you define your values and
your grand vision, and after you have a solid, dependable
strategy for getting there! When you know why you are
working so hard, and are confident that your plans and
strategies have a high probability of success, THEN set
your goals and make them happen.

6. Time, money, energy and focus are your most vital resources.

The things we focus on will surely grow. To create the
life of your dreams, give it your best time, and your best
energy, every day. Make your dreams the focus of your
discussions, your effort and your thoughts, every day.
There is no substitute for "eating, living and breathing"
your most important dreams. Highly successful people have
always been determined, focused and persistent, and they
work very hard. Note: there is a distinction between
"work" (desirable) and "effort" (undesirable)!

7. In the end, it's who you love, and who loves you, that counts.

A World Class Life is marked by the quality of our
relationships and the size, quality and quantity of our
contribution. A rich hermit serves no one, and a talented
curmudgeon is a nuisance! In the end, your WCL is about
making a difference, giving it all away, showing up, and
loving people. Community and relationships are "where it's
at", and there is no substitute.

5. Strictly Business:  Delegate, Don't Abdicate!

One of the key skills for the leaders of growing businesses
is to "get" the distinction between delegation and
abdication.

Many managers and business leaders fall into one of two
extreme categories: They delegate too little and try to do
it all themselves, or they give too much away, abdicating
both their responsibilities and the prerogatives of power.

As their businesses grow, many entrepreneurs try to micro-
manage. We've all heard the term, but too often we fail to
recognize the symptoms until it's too late. For entrepreneurs,
the sense that this is "my company" or the belief that "if
I want it done right I have to do it myself" causes them
to hold on too tightly and limit their results.

At the opposite end are managers who "hire someone to do
that" and abdicate their role as supervisor and leader. One
of the first employees many entrepreneurs hire is a
bookkeeper. As entrepreneurs, they want to focus on
building the business and recognize that their time is not
well-used on the details of bookkeeping. So, they hire
someone and never think about it again.

Big mistake! Every month or so, the newspapers carry a
story about someone embezzling from a small company. Too
often, unsupervised and unsupported, the bookkeeper simply
took advantage of an opportunity the owner created.

Effective managers delegate, but they also know that "what
gets measured, gets done". They monitor and train, they
supervise and support their people. You can't do it all
yourself, and simply turning the job over to someone else
and abdicating your role as manager is not the answer.

Learning to delegate and being an effective supervisor are
complex skills that effective leaders must master. If you

My friend, Pat Mussieux sent this to me, and I love it:
Senior citizens are constantly being criticized for every
conceivable deficiency of the modern world, real or
imaginary. We know we try to take responsibility for all we
have done and do not blame others, BUT, upon reflection, we
would like to point out that it was NOT the senior citizens
who took:

The melody out of music,
The pride out of appearance,
The romance out of love,
The commitment out of marriage,
The responsibility out of parenthood,
The togetherness out of the family,
The learning out of education,
The service out of patriotism,
