1. The One-Minute TIP

What's your dream? Define and clarify it. Write it down,
and proclaim it to the world. Live your dream. Let the
whole world see your dream! Let the world cheer and be
awed by the power of you and the power of your dream.

2. Welcome Notes

It snowed last night! We don't get much snow, especially
not this early in the year, so sitting on the deck and
watching huge wet flakes cover our evergreens and Oak trees
was a big deal! Mary noticed it first, ran to get me, and
we stopped fixing dinner long enough to enjoy a few minutes
of nature's finest artististry. What a treat!

I continue to be intrigued by the flow of positive emails
about the last couple of TIPS on Positive Self-Direction
and last Sunday's, Positive Daily Action. I think we
received over 100 emails saying how helpful they were, and
I appreciate that! My goal is to write practical, inspiring
and USEFUL material that will make an immediate difference.
Thanks to each of you who took a moment to write, and if
you missed them, you can see the articles at:  TIPS Online

Finally, there is an exciting new resource on the web
called MasteryTV(r) and if you haven't checked it out, I
hope you will. There's more in the Resources section
below, but for now just click on the link and for goodness
sake sign up! There's no cost or commitment of any kind,
and if it takes off, wouldn't it be fantastic to have
positive, inspiring information flowing into your home
whenever you wanted? I think this could be HUGE!

3:  Weekly Content

Where are you going in life? What excites and haunts and
challenges you? What really IS your "Big Idea?"

As a coach, Psychologist and amateur philosopher I am
intrigued at how often the richest, luckiest people in the
world can't decide what to do with our lives. Too often we
"try" things, we are interested in a dozen projects and
have an impossible list of things "to do", but we seem
unclear about who we are and where we are going in life.

Last week I gave a presentation about "value-based goal-
setting" and in our discussions it seemed that many of the
high-achieving professionals in the audience were unclear
about what to do with their lives. They talked about being
"restless" and feeling "empty". Doctors complained about a
lack of respect, while teachers and clergy questioned
whether their work was "relevant."

I found it extraordinary!

I remember my grandfather sitting on the porch, watching
the day go by. I remember when people went fishing and
families ate dinner together. I remember a time when life
didn't seem so "hard", and I wonder what happened?

In large part, I think we got confused between "success"
and "happiness." Ultimately, success is - don't take me
too literally here - a losing game. Success is a game
played on the "outside" and the rules and the winners are
decided by people who do not necessarily have your best
interests at heart. It's a game that is tough to win, and
the victories are temporary, often hollow.

Happiness is an "inside" game. Happiness comes from the
heart and the rules are set by the one person who ALWAYS
puts your interests first. Happiness is about fulfillment,
satisfaction, meaning and purpose.

Happiness is about what you give, what you build, and the
difference you make. Success is about what you get, and
what you keep after taxes.

Happiness lasts, while success may last only until someone
younger, stronger, smarter or richer comes along. In the
pursuit of happiness you get to set the rules, you get to
determine the winners and you get to keep the prize.

Now, I love competing and I love to win. I love setting
and achieving goals and I love working with highly
successful people. Particularly in the short-run, success
often brings great happiness, but the two are not the same
and we dare not confuse them.

Success is about recognition from others; happiness is
about peace with yourself. Success is about getting;
happiness is about giving. Success is temporary; happiness
endures in the hearts and memories of others.

So, what makes you truly happy? What brings you joy? What
challenge or dream calls you? What are you doing with your
one and only, magnificent life?

Every human life is unique and we are born for greatness.
We are born to live on the edge, to learn and grow, to make
mistakes, to fall and to get back up again.

I remember when Martin Luther King, Jr. stirred the nation
and the world with his declaration that he had a dream, a
dream of living in freedom and dignity, a dream of being
free, free at last.

What's your dream? Define and clarify it. Write it down,
and proclaim it to the world. Live your dream. Let the
whole world see your dream! Let the world cheer and be
awed by the power of you and the power of your dream.

4. Quotes of the Week

"Every man dies. Not every man truly lives."
                                            -- Braveheart

"One can never consent to creep when one feels the impulse
to soar."
                                            -- Helen Keller

"Shoot for the moon. Even if you miss, you'll land among
the stars."
                                            -- Les Brown

"Freedom is actually a bigger game than power. Power is
about what you can control. Freedom is about what you can
unleash."

5. Strictly Business:   Schedule First Things First

A few weeks ago I wrote that it was time to buy your 2004
calendars and begin planning for the new year. You want to
schedule "first things first."

I believe that line comes from Stephen Covey and it says
that for maximum productivity and profits, your schedule
should always reflect your major values.

Sometimes we talk about "having" to work long hours, put in
over-time, or work weekends. We talk about having to
travel, or having to do other things, and those are
decisions that business leaders must make at times.

But the key to a growing, thriving business is to avoid
being "under the gun." As I understand it, the saying
began not as a compliment for performing well under
pressure, but as a warning to sailors who, if they were
careless or sloppy, could fall and be trapped "under the
gun" when it was fired and recoiled, crushing the
unfortunate sailor. You never want to be "under the gun!"

In working with business leaders, I often encourage them to
use a large wall calendar so they can see an entire year at
a glance. I encourage them to begin by marking personal
days, including birthdays and other times that reflect
their most important priorities. Next, I encourage them to
schedule conferences and training, times for reflection and
personal growth.

Only after those things are done, do we talk about the
mundane requirements of production schedules and staffing
issues.

First, schedule around your values. Second, schedule
around your people, and only then, schedule your daily
production.

Productivity, morale and creativity will soar, while sick
days, turn-over and complaints will plummet. Always
schedule first things first.

6. Resources and Tools for YOUR Success!

#1 Mastery TV!
http://www.masterytv.biz/coach1950

Last week, my friend Kyle Wilson, the President of Jim
Rohn International sent me an email about this incredible
new company. I've known Kyle for years and trust him
completely, so after looking at the video, I signed up
immediately. It looks like someone has FINALLY found a way
to link the Web with motivational audio and video that
really works! This could be huge, in three ways: First,
you could have a vast library of the world's BEST speakers
at your finger-tips! Second, through their affiliate
program you could earn some money, and third, as a culture,
haven't we had enough "junk TV"? I want to support this as
my personal vote to use TV for a positive change! I hope
you'll join me! It's free, there's no risk, and it might
bring HUGE rewards! Take action - click the link, watch
the video, and sign up!

#2 To YOUR Success!
An Audio Program by Dr Philip E. Humbert

Highly effective people understand the POWER of turning
their cars into 'universities on wheels'. They listen to
audio programs while they commute, while they exercise,
while they work in the garden. We created this 2-cassette
audio program to make the wisdom, power, motivation and
insights of TIPS truly portable! You can listen anywhere,
any time, and be reminded of your goals, be challenged to
use your time and your BEST skills to create the life you
want. Success is not an accident! It is the logical,
consistent result of doing the right things, in the right
way, at the right time. I hope you'll invest in this great
program!

#3 "Think Right Now"
Technology to Reach Your Goals & Change Your Life

In the past, dozens of systems have promised to make goal-
setting effortless, and most don't work. In the end,
changing your life requires that you.make changes! (Like,
duh!) Fortunately, psychology's understanding of how change
can be positive and powerful has improved dramatically, and
"Think Right Now" has taken advantage of these insights.

I have been using TRN tapes with clients, and their quit-
smoking, healthy diet, sales, and goal-setting tapes have
worked WONDERS! If you are serious about quitting smoking,
eating healthier, or increasing your sales results, I urge
you to give these a try! They really work!

If you are in the "sales game" and want to dramatically
increase your sales results, I strongly urge you to buy,
listen and USE this information:

Set and Achieve Your Goals!
Life is a goal-focused activity, whether our goal is
sitting on the couch, creating wealth or achieving
happiness. Let the TRN system help you achieve more!

#4 Add e-Commerce to Your Current Website!
(Passive income is a GOOD thing!)

I'm a 'raving fan' of this system that makes it EASY to
sell my tapes, register people for my classes, and create
my affiliate program, and you can use the system FREE for
30 days! Don Schnure has an amazing 'system' for helping me
make money with my website and newsletter, without having
to be a techno-wizard. I use the shopping cart, the
affiliate program (took less than an hour to set up!), and
the broadcast modules. It's so cool! If you have a website,
you NEED this set of tools to make it pay for itself, and
become a profit center for you!  Take the tour!

7. Humor:    Snappy Come-Backs

Ben and Debby sent these to me a while back and I noticed
them this week because I believe they live near the recent
fires in California and I hope they, their home and loved
ones escaped unscathed. I sent an email to thank them for
the humor, but it came back, so I'm a bit concerned. We
send our thoughts and prayers to everyone impacted by the
devastating fires.

I hope you enjoy these... and never have any occasion to find
them useful in real life!

Snappy Answer #1
A flight attendant was stationed at the departure gate to
check tickets. As a man approached, she extended her hand
for the ticket, and he opened his trench coat and flashed
her. Without missing a beat she said, "Sir, I need to see
your ticket, not your stub."

Snappy Answer #2
A lady was picking through the frozen turkeys at the
grocery store, but couldn't find one big enough for her
family. She asked a stock boy, "Do these turkeys get any
bigger?" The stock boy replied, "No ma'am, they're dead."

Snappy Answer #3
The cop got out of his car and the kid who was stopped for
speeding pulled down his window. "I've been waiting for
you all day," the cop said. The kid replied, "Yeah, well I
got here as fast as I could." When the cop finally stopped
laughing, he sent the kid on his way without a ticket.

Snappy Answer #4
A truck driver was driving on the freeway with an over-size
load. Suddenly a lower than usual bridge is right ahead of
him and he gets stuck underneath. Cars are backed up for
miles. Finally, a police car comes up. The cop gets out
of his car and walks around to the truck driver, puts his
hands on his hips and says, "Got stuck, heh?" The truck
driver says, "No, I was delivering this bridge and ran out
of gas.
