1. The One-Minute TIP

Set it as your minimum standard to live a GREAT life, to
make a difference. Eventually, down the road one day, we
will all have to look back and assess our lives and when
that time comes, we want to look back and smile, knowing we
did it well. Set THAT as your standard, and go for it!

2. Welcome Notes

We have a roof! Well, actually we have some temporary
patching, but the wind has stopped blowing in the living
room and the temperature has warmed up. Humans have come a
long way since the caves of our ancestors and I realize how
spoiled I am - I really like my central heating and comfy
recliner! The roofing guys will be here next week and then
the plaster guys and the painters, and then life will be
back to normal, and won't that be boring? (Sometimes boring
is good.)

I published 3 reviews in my occasional letter, BEST BOOKS,
this week and people seem to enjoy them. I reviewed a
biography of Ernest Hemingway, and books by Brian Tracy and
Napoleon Hill. We have almost 2000 subscribers on that
list, which goes out every couple of weeks as I get around
to it, and it's free. If you'd like to join, just send an
email to:
     Books@philiphumbert.com

And, I have more WONDERFUL news! I have confirmed the
dates for our annual World Class Life(tm) Conference in the
village of Green Lake, Wisconsin and you can register now!
To minimize marketing time, costs and hassle, the first 12
people come for half price, get a free round of golf, AND
an exclusive "early adopters" breakfast! Last year, these
early adopter spots were gone in a few days, so ACT FAST!
The dates are May 20-22, so put it on your calendar and
join us! Space is strictly limited and you'll want to be
part of this.

You can get all the info and register at:

3:  The Life of Your Dreams

What does a GREAT life mean to you? That is one of the
most important questions an adult can ask - and answer.

Too many of us wander through life and never examine that
question. We fantasize that a great life is having money
or fame or raising a family, perhaps driving a new car or
having a house in the Hamptons, but we never rigorously
decide exactly how we want to live our lives and what a
GREAT life would look like.

We all know that a great life does not happen by accident.
A great life is not inherited and it does not come with a
diploma, a promotion, getting married (or getting
divorced), having kids or retiring early. A great life is
NEVER automatic and it never comes packaged, like an
accessory, with the "goodies" of life. Sure, lots of
money, a penthouse apartment, political power or winning
the Nobel Prize are wonderful things. I encourage you to
aspire to any (and ALL!) of them.

But none of them will guarantee you a great life.

It seems to me that a GREAT life has a grand purpose, a
central theme and a unifying vision. A great life is a
lifestyle that is chosen "on purpose" and is lived in the
service of a vision greater than itself. A great life is
invested, not merely spent.

Second, it seems to me that a GREAT life makes a great
contribution. A great life uses its talents and abilities
to change at least one small corner of the world and make
it better. A great life stands up, speaks out, and gets
things done. A GREAT life makes a measurable difference
and leaves the world a better place.

Third, it seems to me that a GREAT life leaves a path for
others to follow. It is good to DO great things; it's even
BETTER to do great things and teach others to follow your
lead. A GREAT life leaves a legacy. A GREAT life inspires
the next generation to go further, reach farther, dream
bigger and achieve more.

I am convinced that every one of us has the ability and the
right to a GREAT life. Greatness is not reserved for a
lucky few, for the rich or the powerful, for the artistic
or for any small category of people. Living a GREAT life
is the birthright of every human being, whether we exercise
our greatness in designing tall buildings, or by teaching
children to stand tall.

Greatness is our birthright, whether we express our unique
greatness in business or government, in art or music, in
parenting, or in any of the thousands of so-called "small"
ways that in our hurry and in our arrogance we often over-
look, but which are absolutely essential. Most people
remember a special teacher, and many of us had an uncle who
taught us to whistle or a grandmother who taught us to
read. Perhaps there was a neighbor who taught us to fish,
who gave us our first job, or dared us to persevere when
things were hard.

We all have the opportunity, and the challenge, to make a
difference and to be GREAT. Each of us is invited to live
a magnificent life, a life of substance and distinction,
a life that changes the world for those we touch.

I love the story of the "star thrower", about a man walking
on a beach after a storm, throwing starfish back into the
ocean so they won't die on the shore. Someone criticizes
him for wasting his time, noting there are millions of
starfish, that he can't possibly throw them all back, and
the few he saves won't make much difference. The man
silently bends over, throws a starfish into the surf and
replies, "It made a difference for that one."

Set it as your minimum standard to live a GREAT life, to
make a difference. Eventually, down the road one day, we
will all have to look back and assess our lives and when
that time comes, we want to look back and smile, knowing we
did it well. Set THAT as your standard, and go for it!

Designing and building a World Class Life(tm) is what
our May Conference is about - looking at values and
aspirations, at strategies and practical steps, and at
what's possible. Last year we sold out, and I expect
space will go quickly this year, too. You deserve this
wonderful experience, so take action, register and join us!

5. Strictly Business:   Three Keys For More Business in 2004

"How do I get more business this year?" In the past few
weeks, clients have been asking me that question a lot!
Many of them are therapists or coaches, but a law firm, a
medical clinic and a bakery have also hired me with
basically the same concern. In reviewing their figures for
2003, they realize they need to grow this year, and they
want to know how.

So, I'll give you a short version of the answer I give
them: To grow your business, realize that new customers
are drawn to you because of (1) value, (2) buzz, and (3)
reputation. Let's look briefly at each of these.

Providing extra value means doing something different and
"nicer" than your clients expect. The busiest auto shop in
my community is clean, very friendly, refers to their
mechanics as "technicians", regularly offers free clinics
on car maintenance, has a "child-friendly" play area, and
they go out of their way to treat everyone with respect. I
actually counted 19 specific ways they add value, from the
usual free coffee, to follow-up calls a week after every
repair.

The key to adding value is providing something extra that
your customers appreciate. Do something to surprise them,
something they don't expect, and something that makes them
smile. It pays!

Second, create some "buzz". Get people talking about you!
Get on the radio, offer a contest, participate in community
events, sponsor a sports team, run for mayor, chair a
committee, but do something! Offer free services to
special groups, offer Saturday and Sunday hours, but do
something outrageous! Different gets noticed.

And finally, reputation. On average, one unhappy customer
will spread the word to 16 people! Remember that your
reputation is largely built on intangibles. Certainly,
your professional skills play a part, but so does sending a
thank you note or correcting a mistake promptly. How you
dress, how you smile, the firmness of your handshake and
the warmth of your personality play a HUGE role in your
success. People are always talking. Make sure they have
good things to say about you!

Many businesses and professional offices spend far too much
on "marketing", and not nearly enough on the basics. I
don't think you can "advertise your way to success".
Success is built on quality and value.

6. Resources and Tools for YOUR Success!

   #1 Your World-Class Life!(tm)
   With Dr Philip E. Humbert
May 20-22, 2004 in Green Lake, Wisconsin

Is your life working the way you planned? Are your biggest
dreams and most exciting ambitions still sitting on the
shelf, waiting for "someday"? Are you stuck or frustrated,
or letting time and chance and other people make decisions
about your life, and your future? This Conference is for you!
http://philiphumbert.com/wcl.htm

I invite you to join me for three days in May, where the
focus will be on helping you design, create and live the
life you truly want! Top achievers are not different or born
under a lucky star. They simply KNOW what they want,
create SYSTEMS to achieve it, and then follow a road-map to
success.

This is for YOU! It is a Conference entirely focused on
helping you design your ideal life, and create systems and
plans and skills to make it happen. Living well is an art,
but there is also a science to it. There are skills and
habits that highly successful people use, and you can learn
them! We can show you! And, the first twelve people pay
only half-price, they get a special "early adopters" power
breakfast and I'll even buy them a round of golf! Don't
miss this! "Seize the day" (carpe diem) and let this be the
opportunity that changes everything!  Take ACTION & Join Us!

   #2 To YOUR Success!
An Audio Program by Dr Philip E. Humbert
   http://philiphumbert.com/YourSuccess.htm

Highly effective people understand the POWER of turning
their cars into "universities on wheels." They listen to
audio programs while they commute, while they exercise,
while they work in the garden. True success requires
achievement in four critical areas of life - work,
finances, health and relationships - and we designed this
program to help you reach your goals in each of these
essential areas. As you listen you will be reminded to use
your time and skills to create the life you truly want!
Success is not an accident! It is the predictable result
of doing the right things, in the right way, at the right
time. I hope you'll invest in this great program! (And -
they make GREAT gifts!)

   #3 The One Minute Millionaire
An "Almost FREE!" book, CD & Teleclass

This is one of the most impressive books and concepts I've
ever seen. The more I see the impact it's had on my
clients, the more enthused I become! Please, do yourself a
favor and buy the CD (for $11.95) and get the book and
the classes free! They don't even charge for shipping! This
truly is a magnificent deal and the two-books-in-one
concept is sheer genius. Do yourself a favor, buy this, and
buy one for a friend. Every teenager should be REQUIRED to
read it in high school - It's that good!  Just do it!

   #4 Got a Website?
   Earn Passive Income!

Over the years, I've paid lots of money for shopping carts,
autoresponders and systems that were supposed to help me
serve my subscribers and make money from my website. None
of them worked, or more accurately they worked, but they
were complex, confusing and didn't work very well. Then I
discovered Don Schnure and the amazing programs he's put
together. They work! They are powerful, EASY to use, and
they let me automate my newsletter, my affiliate programs
and my shopping cart, with no hassle! I love this! And, you
can use it absolutely FREE for 30 days, to check it out.
Highly recommended!

7. Humor:    People Say the Dumbest Things

Josh Turner sent these to me this week and I had to pass
them along. I've seen versions of these before, and they
are absolutely worth a read. Enjoy!

#1 At the Airport
I was at the airport, checking in at the gate when an
airline employee asked, "Has anyone put anything in your
baggage without your knowledge?" To which I replied, "If
it was without my knowledge, how would I know?" She smiled
knowingly and nodded, "That's why we ask."

#2 Is it Safe Yet?
The stoplight on the corner buzzes when it's safe to cross
the street. I was crossing with a coworker of mine when
she asked if I knew what the buzzer was for. I explained
that it signals blind people when the light is red.
Appalled, she responded, "What on earth are blind people
doing driving?"

#3 We Should Do This Again?
At a good-bye luncheon for an old and dear coworker who is
leaving the company due to "downsizing," our manager
commented cheerfully, "This is fun. We should do this more
often." Not a word was spoken. We all just looked at each
other with that deer-in-the-headlights stare.

#4 The Power is On
I work with an individual who plugged her power strip back
into itself and for the life of her couldn't understand why
her system would not turn on.

#5 Open Both Sides?
When my husband and I arrived at an automobile dealership
to pick up our car, we were told the keys had been locked
in it. We went to the service department and found a
mechanic working feverishly to unlock the driver's side
door. As I watched from the passenger side, I
instinctively tried the door handle and discovered that it
was unlocked. "Hey," I announced to the technician, "it's
open!" To which he replied, "I know - I already got that side."

Be kind to yourself and to someone else, and have a
wonder-FULL week!
