1. The One-Minute TIP

Whatever your dream, you can achieve it! You can even climb
Mt Everest - people with prosthetic limbs have done it, and
so can you! Or, you can start a business or retire early or
mentor a child or create music. Whatever your heart desires,
you can achieve it if you have a solid plan, a great team,
and the willingness to work "until" it becomes a reality.

2. Welcome Notes

This week someone wrote that they used one of my articles
in their newsletter and it prompted me to do a search on my
name. I was astonished to find over 16,000 entries, most
for articles people have used on their websites. That is
amazing! If you need "instant content" for your website or
newsletter, I have over 300 articles, plus hundreds of back-
issues of TIPS, and you are welcome to use them IF you
include my by-line and contact info.

You can select from dozens of Top 10 and similar lists at:
http://philiphumbert.com/Top10Index.htm

And back issues of the newsletter, with hundreds of
articles, are at:  http://philiphumbert.com/TIPS

Simply include my name as the author and have a working
link back to my website. I hope your readers find them
inspiring and helpful! (And, if you enjoy TIPS, please
encourage your readers to subscribe!)

Finally, I want to express my profound gratitude to two
amazing people. My new book is edited and went to the
printer on Friday! Hurrah! (It will be available this
summer.) If you are a writer, or want to be, here are two
people you need to know:

Michelle Stimpson. She's my editor and no author ever had a
better helper or wiser guide. She is tireless and amazing!
For life coaching and for professional editing to make you
look GREAT, contact her through her website at:
http://www.lifeshinecoaching.com/

Secondly, my book designer, Michael Hrupek is a genius.
He's fast, and he's good! And he's been so busy designing
books he hasn't gotten his own website up! (Shame on him!)
He's designed over 50 books, and made mine look fantastic!
You can contact him by email at: Michael@hrupekdesign.com

(And, no, they didn't pay me for these endorsements -- they
don't even know I wrote this. They are good people and they
made this project a delight, and I felt they should be
acknowledged.)

3:  The Support Systems of Super-Achievers

This week I read the amazing story of LuAn Mitchell, one of
Canada's great entrepreneurs. Her story will never be a movie
because no one would believe it! Pregnant at 16, later a
beauty queen who married a man even after they found out he
had a life-threatening disease, single mom, and CEO of
(believe it or not) one of Canada's largest meat packing
companies (!), she has an astonishing story of perseverance
and accomplishment.

How did she do it? And, what can we learn from people like
LuAn who over-come the odds and get results most of us only
dream of?

I think there are at least four basic principles that MUST
be kept in mind.

The basics are just that, the BASICS! Too often we get
caught in the busy-ness of life and we either forget to
monitor the first principles of success, or we get over-
confident and think we can re-invent the basics, but there
are no "new fundamentals." The fundamentals have not
changed. We either take care of business, or we struggle.
(Or we count on "luck" to save the day...never a smart plan.)

So, what are the basics?

1. Use your HEAD.
Success requires a great strategy. Too often I see idealists
trying to build something that just doesn't make good sense.
They don't have a budget, adequate financing, an effective
strategy or common sense. They have a great idea and charge
ahead, hoping that "somehow" customers will find them. Or
that "somehow" things will work out. Success requires a smart,
logical, effective strategy. Use your head!

2. Follow your HEART.
In addition to a good plan, success requires passion! No matter
how good your plan, there will be challenges along the way
and only passion, determination, faith and "insane optimism"
will carry you through. If your heart isn't in it, don't even
try! (I am convinced that often "procrastination" is really a
great plan with no heat, no fire, behind it.) Super-achievers
are passionate people! Follow your heart.

3. Create a TEAM.
Even marathon runners have a team of trainers, coaches, family
and friends to encourage their "solitary" run. Writing my book
has brought home again that writers need a TEAM of editors,
publishers, publicists and printers. You will need mentors
(a coach), employees or other "staff" to help you achieve
your dream. Winners work in teams and understand the strength
in numbers. Create a winning TEAM and trust them to help you.

4. The joy of hard, hard WORK.
Nothing happens until someone, somewhere, rolls up their sleeves
and gets to work. In this "information age" we tend to forget
that only WORK makes stuff happen. Whether it's the daily
discipline of raising children, teaching school, ministering
to your flock, or the more traditional work of driving a truck
or making sales calls or working in the mill, human work is
the basis for all RESULTS, and only results really count.

If possible, do work you love. And always look for ways to
make things easier, more fun and more productive, but in
the end, hard, hard work (actual productivity) is the basis
for achievement.

Of course, there is more to life than achieving "success",
but doing something worthwhile and leaving our mark in
the world is a huge part of "the good life."

Whatever your dream, you can achieve it! You can even climb
Mt Everest - people with prosthetic limbs have done it, and
so can you! Or, you can start a business or retire early or
mentor a child or create music. Whatever your heart
desires, you can achieve it if you have a solid plan, a
great team, and the willingness to work "until" it becomes
a reality.

If you would like to read LuAn's story, I understand
she will be doing a book promotion this week so you can
buy the book and get hundreds of dollars in bonuses for
helping her achieve best-seller status. For info, join

                                            -- William James

5. Strictly Business:   Selling is the Art of Serving Others

There are many ways to sell. You can lie to the customer,
you can persuade the customer, you can wear the customer
down. You can even trick them. But only briefly, and
usually only once.

We have all been the victim of high pressure sales tactics
at one time or another. We have all made a purchase that
disappointed us, and we remember those times. We remember,
and we don't go back.

You cannot build a sustainable business simply on sales. Of
course, sales are important, but in the long run it is not
sales, but service that creates sustainable profits. If
your product SERVES the customer, they will return. If your
goods and services make the customer's life easier, richer,
better, more productive, healthier or happier, your fortune
is assured. Fail to serve, and in the long run you will
simply fail.

Many people have observed that your business, your fortune,
your reputation and your success are all based on your ability
to serve others. The more people you serve, and the better
you serve them, the more you make. "You can get anything you
want in life, by helping enough other people to get what they
want in life."

Too often, we focus on marketing and talk about the "reach"
of our advertising or our market "penetration" and all of
that is fine. In order to serve others, you must first let
them know you exist.

But never confuse advertising and one-time sales with the
ultimate requirement that your business SERVE the customer.
In the end, your ads may be cute or memorable, but only
SERVICE really counts.

2.   To YOUR Success!
Audio tapes by Philip E. Humbert, PhD

      http://philiphumbert.com/YourSuccess.htm

Recently, I received a wonderful email from Stephen
Hendren, and I want to share it with you. These are great
tapes, and I appreciate Stephen's comments! He wrote:

"I've finally put my finger on what sets you apart from all
the other coaches I've come into contact with . you get the
small stuff! You get the point about the niggles in life
and you NEVER hold up examples that can be dismissed. I was
really inspired by the tapes because it felt like
everything you said I could apply to my own circumstance
and do it now! There were no "pie in the sky" ideals, just
plain, straight forward solutions. "I have already begun
acting on ideas from your tapes. The highest accolade I
give to books is "A thumping good read" (a very British
phrase), well I have to make up a new one for your tapes
and that's "A thumping good listen"!

Regards
Stephen Hendren

Thanks, Stephen! To get your own set of "To YOUR Success!"
tapes, visit:   http://philiphumbert.com/YourSuccess.htm

3.   Turn Your Current Website into an E-Commerce Hub!
       http://www.philiphumbert.com/1A.htm

At last there is a truly simple, powerful and reliable (and
safe!) way to sell books, tapes, workshops and other
services on your current website! For years I struggled
with old-style shopping carts and credit card security. It
worked, but it wasn't easy and it didn't seem "worth it",
then I discovered Don Schnure and his "1AutomationWiz"
suite of services. Just one annual payment gives me a host
of tools and more importantly, they actually WORK! They
are easy to set up, reliable, and convenient. My customers
like it, and I love it! To add passive income and expand
your "reach", sign up for the 30-day trial, explore and
test. You won't be disappointed!

7. Humor:    Ain't It The Truth?

Paul Vogt sends me some of the best one-liners and these
just came in today and I wanted to pass them along because
these are actually new, at least to me. Most of the jokes
and quips I get have been around for a while, but I haven't
seen these and they made me chuckle. I hope you enjoy them!

Marriage changes passion. Suddenly you're in bed with a relative.

I don't do drugs. I get the same effect just standing up real fast.

I live in my own little world. But it's OK. They know me here.

I don't approve of political jokes. I've seen too many of
them get elected.

I love being married. It's great to find that one special
person you want to annoy for the rest of your life.

Every time I walk into a singles bar I can hear Mom's wise
words: "Don't pick that up, you don't know where it's been!"

A good friend will come and bail you out of jail, but a true
friend will be sitting next to you saying, "Whoa! That was fun!"

I signed up for an exercise class and was told to wear
loose-fitting clothing. If I HAD any loose-fitting
clothing, I wouldn't have signed up in the first place!

When I was young we used to go "skinny dipping," now I just
"chunky dunk."

Don't argue with an idiot; people watching may not be able
to tell the difference.

Just remember...if the world didn't suck, we'd all fall off.

Why is it that our children can't read a Bible in school,
but they can in prison?

If raising children was going to be easy, it never would
have started with something called LABOR!

Brain cells come and brain cells go, but FAT cells live
forever.

I saw a woman wearing a sweat shirt with "Guess" on it. So
I said "Implants?" She hit me.
