1. The One-Minute TIP

America's Independence Day is typically celebrated with
picnics and fireworks, and that is wonderful! But I think
it is BEST celebrated as a call to ACTION in our own
personal lives. Freedom is a precious thing, but too often
we take it for granted and fail to USE it! Use your freedom
to build the life you want! You have the liberty to make
something magnificent of your life. Don't waste the
precious freedom that so many died to give us.

2. Welcome Notes

What a glorious time this is! Here in Oregon our summer is
in full bloom, the days are long and warm, the golf courses
are in great shape, and life is good. Last weekend we went
to the coast and walked the beaches, letting Cody play in
the surf and getting our shoes full of sand. Does life get
any richer than that?

Mary and I have a phrase we use, a sort of private joke,
"to be sure we have a summer this year." It reminds us to
get up and watch the sunrise, to sit on the deck with a
good book, to climb a mountain or go camping. It reminds me
to play a golf course I haven't played before, and to fall
asleep in the shade of an Oak tree. Wherever you are, "be
sure to have a summer this year!"

And for our subscribers in the South, enjoy your winter.
Take advantage of the darkness and clear winter sky. Winter
is good, too!

Finally, this week my friend, Margo Chisholm, encouraged
subscribers to her newsletter to subscribe to TIPS and I
want to thank her, and welcome our new friends! I hope you
find TIPS delightful and helpful!

She wanted to help me double our subscriber list by
December, and I appreciate that! You can help, too! PLEASE
think of two or three friends who might enjoy TIPS and
forward this to them. Encourage them to visit my website
and subscribe. Or, they can send an email to:
Subscribe@philiphumbert.com
(Mailto:Subscribe@philiphumbert.com).

Finally, 2004 is already half over! I have more to say
about your six-month review below, but for now, if you
haven't already checked your personal finances for the
first half, I invite you to download our "Practical Family
Balance Sheet." I think you'll find it helpful and it's
available at: http://philiphumbert.com/go/PFBS.xls

3:  Your Personal Independence Day Celebration

While TIPS has a world-wide audience, I suspect all of you
know that next Sunday is July 4th, when the United States
celebrates our Independence Day. Obviously it's a day of
great national pride for Americans, but I think it should
also be a day of introspection and celebration for each of
us as individuals.

It's a day for taking stock, for reviewing our progress and
affirming the life we truly want to live.

Over 200 years ago, American revolutionaries declared that
all people are, and by rights OUGHT to be free to pursue
their PERSONAL goals, based on their PERSONAL definition of
happiness. Most of us vigorously agree with that statement,
and yet too few of us ever reflect on exactly what kind of
life we truly want and (more importantly) the steps we will
take to create the life of our dreams.

So here is the challenge: This week, in preparation for the
picnics and barbeques and fireworks of Independence Day,
take time to define the life you truly want, and the steps
you will take to make it a reality.

Here are four simple but profound steps that may help:

1. Review what you already LOVE about your life!

There is nothing like the power of gratitude. We don't
pause often enough to note how well we are doing, how far
we've come, how much we have. Before talking about what you
want to change, pause to notice what's already working in
your life. Who do you need to thank? Who do you need to
hug? What talents, skills, freedoms and resources do you
celebrate in your life? We are the richest, most educated,
most blessed people in history. Let's begin the revolution
by giving thanks for that!

2. What do you want LESS of in your life?

Before we can add more, we probably have to dump some of
the "stuff" that clutters our busy lives. Be honest! Most
of us are already doing about as much as we can. We have
stuff cluttering our closets, our garages, our attics, and
we have "stuff" cluttering our calendars, too. Before we
can make room for "more" we may have to do some house-
cleaning.

3. What do you want MORE of in your life?

This is often where we begin and most of us have a laundry
list of things we want, from more money to more time, to a
new car or another vacation. So let's dig a bit deeper.
What do you REALLY want in your life?

What brings you joy? What will fulfill you, use your
potential and make you happy? What, exactly, would you like
to change or add or do differently? We live in a time when
you can have just about anything you truly want (and are
willing to work for), but until and unless you define it,
it will be hard to get it. What do you truly WANT?

4. What can you do THIS WEEK to move toward it?

In 1776, a group of Americans wrote a Declaration and
staked their fortunes, their reputations and their very
lives on the outcome. Most of us will not do anything that
risky or dramatic, but you will have to do SOMETHING. What
will you do to declare and demonstrate your independence?

Who will you call? How much will you budget? Will you
change your schedule or your habits? Will you enlist
friends and partners to help you? What step, big or small,
will you take to make things better this week?

Our national Independence Day is typically celebrated with
picnics and fireworks, and that is wonderful! But I think
it is BEST celebrated as a call to ACTION in our own
personal lives. Freedom is a precious thing, but too often
we take it for granted and fail to USE it! Use your freedom
to build the life you want! You have the liberty to make
something magnificent of your life. Don't waste the
precious freedom that so many died to give us.

4. Quotes of the Week

"Be faithful in small things because it is in them that
your strength lies."
                                    -- Mother Teresa

In our daily lives, we must see that it is not happiness
that makes us grateful, but the gratefulness that makes us
happy."
                                    -- Albert Clarke

"Imagination is the highest kite that one can fly."
                                    -- Lauren Bacall

"Opportunities are usually disguised by hard work, so most
people don't recognize them."
                                    -- Ann Landers

5. Strictly Business:   Your Six-Month Review

This Wednesday marks the half-way point in the year and
it's a great time to take stock and see how you're doing.
At the beginning of the year, almost every business
establishes goals -- goals in terms of sales, profits, new
customers, and so forth. Most of us also set personal
goals, often in terms of time with loved ones, in terms of
our health, personal finances, travel or other areas.

Unfortunately, far too many people are discouraged about
setting goals. They remember goals that were written down
and then ignored, and now they say, "goals don't work."

Hogwash! Goals are what make life worth living! Goals to
finish school, learn to drive, goals to meet someone and
fall in love, goals to get a job, build a career - these
things are the building blocks of a great life!

The problem is not with goal-setting, but that we fail in
two related areas:

1. We don't focus on our REASONS for wanting the goal. When
you have enough REASONS, achieving any goal becomes much
easier!

2. We fail to MEASURE. Peter Drucker observed that "what
gets measured, gets done."

This week, review the REASONS you set your goals in the
first place. What would more income or more time off do for
you? When you know WHY something is important, getting it
done is much, much easier.

And secondly, review your numbers. See how you're doing. Be
honest, have the courage to take measurements and note your
progress. You'll be glad you did!

You can get a handy tool for measuring your family's
finances on my website. It's called the "Practical Family
Balance Sheet," there is no charge, and it's at:
http://philiphumbert.com/go/PFBS.xls

And, if you would like help in reaching your goals and
creating the life you truly want, get a coach! You can

#2    Achieve Your Goals, Transform Your Life!
        The "Sedona Method"
        http://philiphumbert.com/go/Sedona.htm

People ask me how they can "really explode my success and
change my life", and after telling them there is no magic
bullet, I refer them to The Sedona Method(tm). This series
of tapes and workbooks is, without doubt, the MOST
successful, thorough and powerful program for taking charge
of your life that I have ever seen. I wish I had written
it! You can get a FREE initial tape to sample the program,
and for goodness sake, sign up for their free newsletter!
Their simple observation that, 'Happiness is free' opened
my eyes and was the beginning of a remarkable journey.
Very powerful stuff!

The program is not simple or cheap - you expected a quick
pill? It is comprehensive, orderly, and effective. Both
Mary and I have used it, and it works! Highly recommended!

#3     Think Right Now!
The Best Tools for CHANGE I've Found!
         http://philiphumbert.com/go/TRN.htm

Many of you have purchased these audio programs to increase
sales, lose weight, set and achieve goals or improve diet,
health and fitness and you know how good they are! My
clients turned me on to these CD's several months ago and
I'm incredibly impressed. I strongly urge you to jump on
this! Top achievers in every field listen to audio
programs. They imagine themselves winning, getting new
records and living the life they truly WANT, and they do it
by visualizing their victories in advance with the help of
Mike's programs. These are fantastic, both for yourself and
as gifts. Grab these!

#4    Got a Website?
        Earn Passive Income!
        http://philiphumbert.com/go/1A.htm

Over the years, I've paid lots of money for shopping carts,
autoresponders and systems that were supposed to help me
serve my subscribers and make money from my website. None
of them worked, or more accurately they worked, but they
were complex, confusing and didn't work very well. Then I
discovered Don Schnure and the amazing programs he's put
together. They work! They are powerful, EASY to use, and
they let me automate my newsletter, my affiliate programs
and my shopping cart, with no hassle! I love this! And, you
can use it for 30 days to check it out. Highly recommended!

7. Humor:    A Great Short Story!

Paul Vogt sends me cute humor, quips and quotes and
recently he sent me this great story. It's not the kind of
humor I usually send, but I thought it was worth including.
I hope you get a chuckle and a bit of inspiration from it.

One day a farmer's donkey fell down a well. The animal
cried piteously as the farmer tried to figure out what to
do. Finally, he decided the animal was old, and the well
needed to be covered up anyway; it just wasn't worth the
time and trouble to retrieve the donkey.

He invited all his neighbors to come over and help him and
they began to shovel dirt into the well. At first, the
donkey realized what was happening and cried horribly.
Then, to everyone's amazement he quieted down.

A few shovel loads later, the farmer finally looked down
the well. He was astonished at what he saw. When each
shovel of dirt hit his back, the donkey was doing something
amazing. He would shake it off and take a step up.

As the farmer's neighbors continued to shovel dirt on top
of the animal, he would shake it off and take a step up.
Pretty soon, everyone cheered as the donkey stepped over
the edge of the well and happily trotted off!

Life is going to shovel dirt on you. The trick to getting
out of the well is to shake it off and take a step up. Each
of our troubles is a steppingstone. We can get out of even
the deepest wells if we never stop and never give up. Just
shake it off and take a step up.

Be kind to yourself and to someone else, and have a
wonder-FULL week!
