1. The One-Minute TIP

In the 21st century, "instant innovation" will build great
companies, establish movements, and lead the world. In my
opinion, "coping" with change or "adapting to new
circumstances" will be a recipe for disaster. Develop your
creativity, your confidence, and your daring. Like any
other muscle or skill, they grow stronger with use and in
this new century, they will become essential skills. Don't
"over-come." Triumph!

2. Welcome Notes

I hope all of you had the chance to watch the Presidential
Inauguration this week! Whatever short-comings our country
has, our peaceful elections and the universal recognition
of our leaders is an amazing thing. I admired the presence
of John Kerry and leaders of the "loyal opposition" on the
platform. Seeing three past Presidents sitting beside Mr
Bush was an amazing thing. Few countries can match that
example of democracy in action!

Now let's work together for peace and a better world. Day
by day, let's make this planet a safer, richer, more
inviting place to live.

I have two invitations for you this week. You can see more
about them below in the Resources section, but briefly:

1-- There are 5 spaces left in the February "1st TEAM
Coaching" project. This is for anyone (biz owner,
entrepreneur, professional or individual) who is ready to
"make things happen." If you are not satisfied with your
current situation - if you are ready to make more money,
get in shape, or achieve other projects that are important
to you - I hope you'll join us. We'll help you develop
better strategies, reduce stress, and focus on your most
important priorities. This things works!

Get info at:   http://1stTeamCoaching.com

Or send me an email at: Coach@philiphumbert.com

2-- I'll be announcing the 11th Annual "World Class Life
Conference" in Wisconsin this week. I'm finalizing the
details now, so watch for a special invitation, but mark
your calendars for May 12-14th. This is a wonderful event
that has transformed lives and it could be the KEY to
unlocking YOUR future!

This May 12th - 14th, in Wisconsin. See you there!

3:  Essential Skills for the 21st Century: Instant Innovation

Over the past weeks, I've been talking about "skills for
the 21st century" and this week I want to focus on "instant
innovation."

The quip that "change is the only constant" is a really
annoying clich‚. We've been told that the rate of change is
increasing, and it's true. We experience more changes in
policy and procedures, more new tools, new ideas and new
requirements than any generation in history. Every day we
run faster and faster, just to keep from falling behind.
And it's exhausting!

The problem with the old advice to "deal with change," or
the cynical observation that we must "adapt or die" is that
they are survival strategies. They may keep us alive, but
who wants to merely survive?!

I don't want to merely endure life, or run to keep up, or
struggle to adapt, I want to dance! I want to triumph and
celebrate. I want a glorious life, filled with laughter and
joy! I don't want to merely survive; I want to thrive in a
creative environment of constant opportunity and never-
ending growth!

But how?

The solution is developing the skill of instant innovation.
Whatever life throws at us, we immediately start "playing"
with it to see how it works, to see how it can serve us,
and (more importantly) to see how we can USE it to serve
others.

A few years ago, one of the large investment banking firms
ran a television commercial that showed a small chamber
orchestra playing their stringed instruments. Suddenly, a
basketball bounced into the scene and one of the violinists
picked it up out of curiosity. He tossed it to someone
else, who bounced it to another. By the end of the
30-second commercial (think about that - in 30 SECONDS!)
the orchestra transformed into a basketball team.

THAT IS INSTANT INNOVATION!

While I respect the very smart people - consultants,
trainers and experts - who have taught us to adapt (cope)
with change as rapidly as possible, I disagree with them. I
do NOT believe that coping or adapting to change is what we
need for the 21st century. We'll never adapt quickly
enough. The model is flawed and will not meet the needs of
real people in the real world.

We need "instant innovation." We need an attitude that is
never surprised because it expects and welcomes the
unexpected. We need skills to creatively respond, or "play"
with whatever life throws at us.

Here's a brief and greatly simplified example. I've long
been fascinated by the early Antarctic explorers. In 2002,
Mary and I had the chance to visit Antarctica, and I
learned about the "race for the South Pole."

In 1911, Roald Amundsen and Robert Scott raced for the pole
over the frozen continent. Scott was an extraordinary
scientist and prepared with care and detailed planning.
Relatively speaking, Amundsen was a true adventurer. While
Scott was plotting weather and mapping routes, Amundsen
simply took off.

Eventually, they both got to the South Pole, with Amundsen
getting their first. Tragically, Scott's party perished on
the return trip, freezing to death only 11 miles from the
safety of their base camp, and part of the difference was
"preparation, foolish preparation."

While Amundsen was able to face the risks of innovation and
(rather impulsively) took off, Scott was delayed by his
planning and preparation, and eventually the cold weather
killed him.

Amundsen's faith in his ability to innovate, to over-come
and triumph not only made him first to the pole, in the
end, it save his life.

5. Strictly Business:   Customer Loyalty or Raving Fans?

This past Wednesday I interrupted my schedule, pulled off a
busy street, drove around the block and went back to see if
my eyes were playing tricks on me. I had glimpsed a small
sidewalk banner with the name of a company I thought was
out of business. I pulled into a busy shopping mall, drove
around, and finally spotted the business. They were open
and I immediately found a parking spot, got out, walked
over and bought a sandwich.

Yup. All that for a chicken sandwich.

But, you see, it's no ordinary sandwich. It's a "Cart de
Frisco" chicken sandwich and it's fantastic. It's huge - a
real "two-hander" and it's messy. It's got sauces dripping
on my shirt and running down my hands. It's hot and spicy
and gives me heartburn. It's "to die for" and it's served
with flair, humor and enthusiasm.

Twenty years ago, a Cambodian refugee came to Eugene with
nothing. But he had this idea for a spicy chicken sandwich,
which is rumored to have over 50 ingredients crowded onto a
Kaiser bun. He didn't have any money for a restaurant, so
he sold them from a cart on the sidewalk and when I worked
downtown, it was not unusual to see a dozen people lined
up, waiting for their sandwich in the Oregon rain.

Do people wait in the rain to do business with you? This
guy served them with a smile and with "attitude." He made
people laugh, he made you glad to do business with him.

Wednesday, I learned that he had been ill and that's why
his carts had disappeared for a while, but now he's back
and once again, people are lined up for his chicken
sandwiches.

I've never seen any advertising for his little business.
I've never known him to do any "marketing." But he now
drives a Cadillac and he's done quite well for himself.
Another "over-night sensation!"

His cute little cart, his delicious sandwich, and his
extraordinary attitude of happiness and optimism have
created thousands of raving fans here in Eugene. Can you
say that about your business? Why not?

Create raving fans. They, in turn, will make you rich.

#2     101 Best Ways to Get Ahead
         An "encyclopedia" of Success!
         http://philiphumbert.com/go/ma.htm

As I've been telling you recently, Michael Angier has
compiled the most useful and most powerful "encyclopedia"
for achievement I've ever seen. He calls it "101 Best Ways
to Get Ahead" and I absolutely want you to jump on this,
buy it, print it out and keep it on your desk from now on!

Creating a GREAT life is ALWAYS an on-going journey. That
is why you need this book! In life we need to achieve a
wide variety of things. Some are financial, some focus on
our relationships. Some are connected to health and
fitness, others to parenting or preparing for retirement,
but ALL of these things have one thing in common:

Other people have figured out how to do them well. Someone,
somewhere has figured out the "recipe" to achieve the
things you want in life, and Michael has compiled the
quotes, recommendations, the "recipes" to get stuff done! I
hope you'll jump on this!

#3     Think Right Now!
The Best Tools for CHANGE I've Found!
          http://philiphumbert.com/go/TRN.htm

Many of you have purchased these audio programs to increase
sales, lose weight, set and achieve goals or improve diet,
health and fitness and you know how good they are! My
clients turned me on to these CD's several months ago and
I'm incredibly impressed. I strongly urge you to jump on
this! Top achievers in every field listen to audio
programs. They imagine themselves winning, getting new
records and living the life they truly WANT, and they do it
by visualizing their victories in advance with the help of
Mike's programs. These are fantastic, both for yourself and
as gifts. Grab these!

#4     Got a Website?
         Earn Passive Income!
         http://philiphumbert.com/go/1A.htm

Over the years, I've paid lots of money for shopping carts,
autoresponders and systems that were supposed to help me
serve my subscribers and make money from my website. None
of them worked, or more accurately they worked, but they
were complex, confusing and didn't work very well. Then I
discovered Don Schnure and the amazing programs he's put
together. They work! They are powerful, EASY to use, and
they let me automate my newsletter, my affiliate programs
and my shopping cart, with no hassle! I love this! And, you
can use it for 30 days to check it out. Highly recommended!

We all know that bad news and tragedy make headlines, so
once in a while it's nice to see some humorous headlines,
intentional or otherwise. Most of these have been around
for a long time, so I make no guarantees that they occurred
in 2004, or that they ever appeared in any newspaper, for
that matter. I only promise they'll make you chuckle.
Enjoy.
