1. The One-Minute TIP

Commit to investing time and money and energy in the things
that mean the MOST to you. Re-commit to planning your life,
to living your values, and to making the most of your talents
and the opportunities to live well, rather than being merely
busy. A GREAT life is no accident. It is the result of
planning, preparation and commitment to doing the few key
priorities you have chose for your life. Do less, live more!

2. Welcome Notes

Did you notice the full moon this week? In the evenings it
came up over the Cascade mountains east of us, and during
our morning walks, Cody and I watched the stars fade and
the moon setting to the west, and for whatever reason it
seemed particularly magnificent. I hope you get a moment
to enjoy nature every day, whether it's a moonrise or
watching squirrels in a park or just sitting outside.

I know many of us spend almost all our time indoors at
home, then in our offices or other buildings. We even
exercise indoors at the gym! Get outside, breath the air,
listen to the wind, if only for a moment. Highly recommended!

Here's another strong recommendation - please join us for
the World Class Life Conference in May! I always give the
deepest discount to the first people to register, then we
raise the price as the Conference fills up. We reached 66%
capacity last Thursday and normally I end the 40% discount
at that time, but I decided to hold off until Monday night,
Feb 28th. Anyone who registers QUCKLY will still get the
full 40% off - but only for two more days.

I hope you'll take action and join us! You'll get tools,
tips, techniques and time to design, create and LIVE the
life you truly want. Visit the website and read the
comments from previous participants. This is a wonderful
event and you are invited!

Finally, we do not advertise TIPS and never commercially
solicit subscribers. We depend entirely on your word-of-
mouth to grow. Do you know some people who "should" be
getting TIPS? How about friends, colleagues, office-partners
or family? Please forward your copy to them and encourage
them to visit my website and subscribe. Your support is
appreciated!

3:  Do Less, Live More!

One of my favorite stories is that when Henry Thoreau told
his friend, Ralph Waldo Emerson, that the key to the good
life was to "simplify, simplify, simplify", Emerson replied
that "one simplify might have sufficed." I love that reminder
that in many situations, less is more.

The mantra of our age seems to be, "better, faster, cheaper
and more, more, more!", and the problem is that it's not
always helpful.

This week Mary and I agreed that while the past few weeks
have been very productive, we're not having as much fun as
we would like. We are making more, but enjoying it less,
and that's never a good thing!

As we talked, it was clear that at least two things are
going on and we have to sort them out.

The first is being clear about our values.

We love doing stuff, learning things, building things,
starting things. We love things that challenge us or enrich
our lives, so we are suckers for every great new idea that
comes along - and there are lots of great ideas!

But our values are not around excitement or even primarily
around money or success. Our values tend to be about
relationships, quality time, travel and education, peace of
mind and personal integrity, and the problem is that our
culture rarely encourages these things.

Modern society tends to applaud (and be impressed by)
displays of wealth or power or popularity, and those are
good things! Don't get me wrong - I love both progress and
making a profit!

But, as Emerson observed, "sometimes money costs too much."
We noticed that in our rush to jump on several recent
opportunities, we were getting caught up in what Michael
Angier calls "the thick of thin things" and it wasn't
working for us. A return to personal values is called for.

Secondly, we had failed to plan, and as the saying goes,
"those who fail to plan, are planning to fail."

In our case, the failures are not obvious. In terms of
profits, we are doing very well, and that is exciting! It's
wonderful to see things come together and to receive the
applause of friends and business associates. It's fun, it's
good - and it's seductive.

We were canceling private time and postponing important
priorities. We were missing the joy of time together and
the daily activities we value. We had failed to plan, and
so the distractions of life were running away with our
schedules, and that is not a recipe for true success!

So, we've cut back on activities and are talking about our
values every day. We talk about what we love, what we
cherish, what we stand for. It's not that we had forgotten
these things, but we realize it is our personal
responsibility to align ourselves with our values, and to
do it on purpose, every day.

We have re-committed to investing time, money and energy in
the things that mean the MOST to us. We have re-committed
to planning our lives, to living our values, and to making
the most of our talents, our relationships, and our
opportunities. I invite you to join us - a GREAT life is no
accident. It is the result of planning, preparation and
commitment to the key priorities you have chosen for your
life. Do less, live more!

If you want to stop "running faster and living less"
join us for the World Class Life Conference(tm) in May.
Take time to relax, renew, and re-commit to your most
important goals. Focus on practical STRATEGIES to create
and LIVE the life you truly want. But act quickly! Space
is limited and the Conference always fills up.

5. Strictly Business:   Why Are You Doing This?

Every successful business leader has a clear answer to this
vital question: Why are you building this company? Who
does it serve and what's your greater purpose? Answering
these questions costs you very little, and it can pay huge
dividends.

For some entrepreneurs, the primary purpose is simply to
create a business that can be sold. They have a talent for
seeing a need and designing systems to meet the need while
making a profit, and they love starting new businesses.
Once the company is established, they often sell it and may
repeat the process again and again through the years.

Most business owners, however, have some other purpose in
mind, and it is often deeply personal. Some want to build
a company they can pass on to their children. Others want
to see how large and profitable they can make it, and they
dream of a vast enterprise with thousands of employees.
Still others, want a business that expresses their values
or contributes to society in some way.

In coaching hundreds of entrepreneurs, I am struck that it
does not seem to matter what the reason actually is. What
matters is the ability to keep it in sight at all times.
Knowing your personal vision, your purpose or mission, the
"reason why we do this", is absolutely critical.

The solution is simple: Keep your eyes on the prize! Step
back, gain perspective, renew your commitment. Remember
WHY you are doing this! If you are clear enough about the
"why", you'll figure out the "how".

6. Resources and Tools for YOUR Success!

#1    The 11th Annual World Class Life Conference
May 12-14th, in Green Lake, WI
Open the Door to Your Future!
        Create the Life You Love!
        www.MyWorldClassLife.com

There are two groups of people who eagerly attend this
Conference every year: (1) High achievers who know the
extraordinary value of gaining perspective, personal power
and renewal, and (2) high achievers who are sick and tired
(frustrated!) with their sense of "permanent potential."

I'm told Bill Gates takes a two-week retreat on Hood Canal
four times a year. He knows the value of time to think, to
relax, to let his imagination run wild and gain
perspective. Bill Clinton made the Renaissance retreat in
Hilton Head famous and it's attended by dozens of the
richest, most powerful people in America every New Year.
Imagine, putting yourself in a beautiful setting and
surrounding yourself with bright, dedicated, success people
who were there to help you do better! YOU CAN DO THIS!

I invite you to join us in Wisconsin at one of the most
beautiful retreat centers in the world. We'll focus on YOU.
We focus on the keys to "the good life." We focus on the
strategies that work, and we network with people who can
help us "get there." This is my favorite event of the year,
because it's the BEST VALUE and the MOST POWERFUL. I hope
you'll join us! Take action, check it out, and register!

#2     Think Right Now!
The Best Tools for CHANGE I've Found!
          http://philiphumbert.com/go/TRN.htm

Many of you have purchased these audio programs to increase
sales, lose weight, set and achieve goals or improve diet,
health and fitness and you know how good they are! My
clients turned me on to these CD's several months ago and
I'm incredibly impressed. I strongly urge you to jump on
this! Top achievers in every field listen to audio
programs. They imagine themselves winning, getting new
records and living the life they truly WANT, and they do it
by visualizing their victories in advance with the help of
Mike's programs. These are fantastic, both for yourself and
as gifts. Grab these!

#3    Got a Website?
        Earn Passive Income!
        http://philiphumbert.com/go/1A.htm

Over the years, I've paid lots of money for shopping carts,
autoresponders and systems that were supposed to help me
serve my subscribers and make money from my website. None
of them worked, or more accurately they worked, but they
were complex, confusing and didn't work very well. Then I
discovered Don Schnure and the amazing programs he's put
together. They work! They are powerful, EASY to use, and
they let me automate my newsletter, my affiliate programs
and my shopping cart, with no hassle! I love this! And, you
can use it for 30 days to check it out. Highly recommended!

7. Humor:    Classic Letter From A Marine Recruit

Once again, my friend and regular humorist, Bill Barrows
has come through with a classic. Be sure to read all the
way to the very end - it's worth the moment it'll take. And
enjoy!

LETTER HOME FROM A FARM KID, TRAINING AS
A MARINE CORP RECRUIT

Dear Ma and Pa:

I am well. Hope you are. Tell Brother Walt and Brother
Elmer the Marine Corps beats working for old man Minch by a
mile. Tell them to join up quick before maybe all of the
places are filled. I was restless at first because you got
to stay in bed till nearly 6 a.m., but am getting so I like
to sleep late. Tell Walt and Elmer all you do before
breakfast is smooth your cot and shine some things. No hogs
to slop, feed to pitch, mash to mix, wood to split, or
fire to lay. Practically nothing. Men got to shave but
it is not so bad, there's warm water.

Breakfast is strong on trimmings like fruit juice, cereal,
eggs, bacon, etc., but kind of weak on chops, potatoes,
ham, steak, fried eggplant, pie and other regular food, but
tell Walt and Elmer you can always sit by two city boys
that live on coffee. Their food plus yours holds you till
noon when you get fed again.

It's no wonder these city boys can't walk much. We go on
"route marches" the platoon sergeant says are long walks to
harden us. If he thinks so, it's not my place to tell him
different. A "route march" is about as far as to our
mailbox at home. Then the city guys get sore feet and we
all ride back in trucks. The country is nice but awful flat.

This next will kill Walt and Elmer with laughing. I keep
getting medals for shooting. I don't know why. The bulls-
eye is near as big as a chipmunk head and don't move, and
it ain't shooting at you like the Higgett boys at home. All
you got to do is lie there all comfortable and hit it. You
don't even load your own cartridges. They come in boxes.

Then we have what they call hand-to hand combat training.
You get to wrestle with them city boys. I have to be real
careful though, they break real easy. It ain't like
fighting with that ole bull at home.

I'm about the best fighter they got except for that Tug
Jordan from over in Silver Lake. I only beat him once. He
joined up the same time as me, but I'm only 5'6" and 130
pounds, and he's 6'8" and weighs near 300 pounds dry. Be
sure to tell Walt and Elmer to hurry and join up before
other fellers get onto this setup and come stampeding in.
