1. The One-Minute TIP

We are strong, talented people. We work hard all day long.
The difference is that powerful people get more of the
"right things" done. They take specific actions toward the
attainment of clearly defined values. While most of us are
"busy about many things" they are busy about a few things.
While we scatter our strength over many different projects,
they stay focused. While other people are "wishing," they
pursue their highest values and clearest priorities in life.

2. Welcome Notes

This week we fly to Atlanta for the "Claim Your Power NOW!"
conference with Jim Rohn, Bob Proctor, Lisa Himendez and a
host of other great speakers! I can hardly wait! I've
admired and learned from many of these people for over 20
years and to be onstage with them is an honor and a thrill!
Mary bought a couple new outfits, I've been working on my
presentation, and we're excited!

I had assumed that everyone who would be attending had
already made their reservations, so I was surprised this
week when several people, including two recent clients,
contacted me about coming "at the last minute!" As far as I
know (this is Wed) there is still room, although both
Sections A and B are almost full. If you've been debating

Finally, I want to remind everyone that this month we've

lives. It's how we take action, make daily choices, and
make our dreams come true. My mission is to help 100,000
people per year "create lives of Peace, Passion, Power,
Purpose and Prosperity" and your personal power is the key.

3:  For Success, Choose Power Over Strength

If you've ever watched a cat torment a big dog, you know
the difference between strength and power. Our dog, Cody,
is a big mixed-breed who weighs almost 100 pounds. He's
quick, agile and incredibly strong. He tears up more toys
than any dog I've ever owned. My last dog could play with a
tennis ball for weeks. Cody destroys them in five minutes
flat!

And yet our cat, Socks, routinely sneaks up on him, pounces
and makes him flee the room. It's funny, and fortunately
they're best friends, but it's also a clear demonstration
that strength and power are very different things!

Almost all of my clients are strong, talented people. They
have education, they are ambitious and they have resources,
and yet many of them come to coaching because they are
frustrated. They don't have the power to get things done!
Too many of us are like that.

Many of us went to school for a good education. We work
hard every day. We're bright, ambitious, strong people. We
do the "right" things and yet see others make more money,
get the big promotions, or achieve other results far beyond
us. That's incredibly frustrating! And, fortunately, it can
be changed.

High achievers leverage their strength in pursuit of clear
priorities. They know what they want and focus their
efforts to get specific results. Whether you call them
"goals" something else doesn't seem to matter. They know
what they want and they go after it with a focus and
determination that gets uncommon results. Why doesn't
everyone do that?

My sense is that we are not lazy people, but we ARE lazy in
one particular area. We decline to define the things we
truly want in life. We refuse to choose.

When I was a teenager, I did many foolish things (didn't we
all?) and one of them was to play with gunpowder. (PLEASE
don't try this!) One of the things we learned is that for
all it's inherent power, a bit of gunpowder spread on the
sidewalk and lit with a match makes a very disappointing
display. It flares up, makes a puff of smoke, and not much
happens.

But put that same gunpowder in a shell, put the shell in a
rifle, point it at a target, and it can have enormous
impact up to a mile away!

Too many of us refuse to concentrate our efforts like that.
We "want" success, but we also want time off. We "want"
money, but we spend it on toys. We "want" a promotion, but
decline to work over-time, improve our skills or give up
the distractions that keep us from getting to the top. The
list of examples is endless.

One definition of power is that it is "strength applied to
a specific task."

High achievers know their most important values and focus
on them. They value success in one or more areas of life,
and devote their time, energy, persistence, skills and hard
work to achieving it. Most of us don't do that. We "wish"
rather than "pursue" things.

When you know who you are and what you value, bringing all
your strength to bear on a problem can yield enormous
results in a short time. When we have the courage to
clarify our priorities, life is much less complicated and
we become more successful.

Ask yourself which of the following pairs you value MORE:

--  Money or leisure?
--  Owning a business or working for someone else?
--  Fitness or a second helping of desert?
--  A loving family or community activities?
--  Peace of mind or being busy all the time?

Obviously, those do not have to be either/or choices, but I
hope you get the point.

Powerful people are clear about their choices. They have
sorted out their priorities, and their actions reflect
their choices. So should yours.

We are strong, talented people. We work hard all day long.
The difference is that powerful people get more of the
"right things" done. They take specific actions toward the
attainment of clearly defined values. While most of us are

5. Strictly Business:   The Marketing Two-Step 

I have been hearing a great deal from clients and readers
who say they "can't find" good customers.

Great customers are everywhere! People need and want to be
safer, richer and more successful, healthier and happier.
The list of human desires is endless! And that means the
opportunities to serve others and increase your business
are also endless. Are you taking advantage of that fact?

Two great principles apply to all successful marketing:

First: People buy benefits! They buy things that make
their lives better. They buy solutions. They buy comfort,
safety, health and happiness. Very few people buy nutrition
- they buy health. Very few people buy "transportation" -
they buy economy or safety or sex appeal. What benefits are
you selling?

Second: Only a tiny percentage of your potential customers
will actually buy your product or service from you, so you
MUST reach large numbers of potential customers.

The good news is that it's easy to reach "large" numbers!
For most professionals, reaching "enough" people means
reaching a few hundred, or perhaps a few thousand people.
Most professionals only need a few hundred customers per
year. Even a small retail shop only needs a few thousand
customers! That is GREAT news!

How will you tell 1000 people about your products or
services this year? Will you do it by word of mouth, or
through personal contact at a social or service club? How
about radio or newspaper advertising, or the Internet? Will
you use press releases or public seminars? There are many
"tools". Pick a method, master it, and use it! Your wealth
depends on letting "enough" people know the benefits of
what you do.
