1. The One-Minute TIP

The problem with goals is that they are always in the
future. They are something to be worked on and achieved as
soon as possible, but always in the future. Systems support
us and enrich our lives immediately, today, right NOW!

============================================
2. Welcome Notes

We have snow! In this part of Oregon, we get one or two
light snowfalls each year, and it's usually gone the next
day. This week though, we have several inches of snow, it
turned cold, and we're living in the "winter wonderland" of
fairytales! It's beautiful, cold and clear. The trees are
decorated with snow and the ground crunches when you walk!
It's wonderful!

Of course, school is out and the kids are probably enjoying
that more than their parents. Many businesses either closed
or cut back, and of course that's inconvenient, but Cody
and I played in the snow, got cold and wet, and had a
wonderful time. I hope your new year is off to an equally
exciting start!

Finally (drum roll please!), I am announcing open
registration for our annual World Class Life Conference!
This May will be our twelfth consecutive year, and it is by
far the most exciting and fulfilling conference I do each
year. Every year people eagerly wait for me to open
registration, so NOW is your chance! The first 11 people
get a free round of golf with me, on top of the "early-
bird" discount and the wonderful content, environment and
networking of this event. I hope you'll join us!

3:  Would You Rather Have Goals or Systems?

This is the time of year when almost everyone reviews their
dreams and sets goals and targets for the new year, and
that is a GOOD thing! Always be clear about where you're
going! Always have a destination, an outcome, a "next step"
or target in mind. If you don't choose your goals in life,
you are doomed to wonder without direction or purpose.
Always know "what's next" in life!

At the same time, here's an interesting question: Would you
rather have goals, or systems that automatically take you
where you want to go in life?

I think the answer is obvious, but few people seem to
really "get it."

Goals are wonderful. As I just wrote, goals are good! But
systems are better.

The problem with goals is that they are always in the
future. They are something to be worked on and achieved as
soon as possible, but always in the future. Systems support
us and enrich our lives immediately, today, right NOW!

Because they are in the future, goals are easier than
systems. Goals sound nice, they can be exciting, and
there's a certain safety in knowing that we can have goals
"down the road" without having to disrupt our lives today.

New systems, on the other hand, can disrupt our lives, and
sometimes upset important people around us. A goal to start
a business is very different than getting home late every
night because we're working on a new building. A goal to
start "some day" is very different than spending every
weekend launching the new project. A goal to be slim, trim
and strong "this year" is very different than adding a
daily workout to your already busy schedule.

Systems (or habits) are the golden path to anything we want
in life. Once you establish the system or pattern of
exercising every day, fitness is no longer a goal. It
becomes the automatic, inevitable result of what you
"normally" do every single day. Fitness is a "side effect"
of your system!

This is true of just about anything you want in life. My
bias is that no one should set a "goal" to start saving!
(Set a goal to achieve a specific return on your
investments, but not to "start saving"!) Instead, decide to
save, then develop a system to IMMEDIATELY make saving
automatic, fool-proof and easy. Join a payroll savings plan
or find another system that makes it very hard NOT to save.

Never set a "goal" to improve your marriage! Instead,
develop a system that includes quality time every single
day. Establish a system of weekly dates. Develop habits,
patterns (or "systems") for careful listening, gentle
sharing, and lots of hugs that will predictably lead to the
results you prefer.

Systems beat goals every time!

Year after year, I have clients who are eager to set sales
"goals," but few who are prepared to change their daily
behaviors and develop systems that will guarantee more
sales. Systems make success automatic, but can be
uncomfortable, even painful, at first.

In the end, I recommend focusing on systems. Goals excite
the imagination and give us a preview of coming
attractions, but systems are the golden path to ultimate
success. Systems give us control and empower us
immediately. Systems will open doors and give you the life
you truly want.

For more on creating the World Class Life you truly
want be sure to attend our annual Conference this May. It's
a bargain, it's wonderful, it's powerful, and you are invited!

4. Quotes of the Week

"Man is so made that when anything fires his soul,
impossibilities vanish."
                                             -- Jean De La Fontaine"

"You have a calling which exists only for you and which
only you can fulfill."
                                             -- Dr. Naomi Stephan

"We have much to do together. Let us do it in wisdom and
love and joy. Let us make this the human experience."
                                             -- Gary Zukav"

"Consult not your fears but your hopes and your dreams.
Think not about your frustrations, but about your
unfulfilled potential. Concern yourself not with what you
tried and failed in, but with what it is still possible for
you to do."
                                             -- Pope John XXIII

5. Strictly Business:   How Much Should You Pay?

In business, we always want to pay the lowest price we can,
while charging as much as possible for what we sell. The
difference, or "margin" is the profit that make business
possible.

So the question is, how much should we pay?

There's a wonderful quote from Jeremy Rifkin that addresses
this. He noted that paying too much always means we've
wasted a portion of what we spent. If we over-pay by a
dollar, we've wasted that dollar. On the other hand, if we
under-pay and purchase sub-standard material, there is the
risk that we'll have wasted the entire purchase.

My bias is always to pay slightly more and get the best
quality the market has to offer.

This week, the U.S. Congress has been debating raising our
minimum wage to help the poorest among us make more. Part
of the debate has been over how much it may help the poor,
verses how much it may harm business or the economy. In
many ways, I see it as a silly and irrelevant argument.

Never pay the "minimum"! For me, it's a simple rule: If you
want the best people, the best products, the best service
and the best results, buy the best. There may be times when
"good enough" will do, but most of the time we are looking
for excellent results, and that means investing in superior
ingredients.

To build your business, look for the highest quality in
everything you purchase. Hire (and pay for) the best
people. Buy the highest quality raw materials. Hire the
best contractors, the best designers and engineers. When we
skimp, it eventually shows up. Don't let that happen to
you, or your customers!

6. Resources and Tools for YOUR Success!

#1    The 12th Annual World Class Life Conference
May 17-19, in Green Lake, WI
Open the Door to Your Future!
        Create the Life You Love!
        www.MyWorldClassLife.com

The people who eagerly attend this Conference every year
understand the extraordinary value of perspective, personal
power and renewal, and they are ready to take the "next
step" in their lives! They have decided that this is the
year they go "forward!"

Bill Gates takes a two-week retreat on Hood Canal four
times a year. He knows the value of time to think, to
relax, and let his imagination run wild. The famous
Renaissance retreat in Hilton Head is attended by dozens of
the richest, most powerful people in America every year
specifically to gain perspective, renew their energy, and
network with the best people they can find. Imagine,
yourself in a beautiful setting, and surrounded with
bright, dedicated, successful people who are there to help
you do better! YOU CAN DO THIS!

I invite you to join us at one of the most beautiful
retreat centers in the world. We'll focus on YOU. We focus
on the keys to "the good life." We focus on the strategies
that work, and we network with people who can help us "get
there." This is my favorite event of the year, because it's
the BEST VALUE and the MOST POWERFUL. I hope you'll join
us! Take action, check it out, and register!

#2   Diamond Club
Last Chance! Registration is Closing Soon
       Make 2007 Your Best Ever!
       http://philiphumbert.com/go/diamond.htm

Want to guarantee your success in 2007? Of course you do!
We all do and we all know that success comes from setting
goals, but we also know that goals are easier to set than
to achieve. Too often we visualize our goals and start off
strong, but then daily life gets in the way and without a
"system" we get distracted. Don't let that happen to you in
2007!

To make 2007 the year you've always dreamed of, you need a
system. You'll need support. You'll need mentoring (we all
do) and on-going commitment. These things are essential! My
friend and colleague, Michael Angier, has created the
success system! He's created a very low-cost, high-impact
program that will keep you focused, keep you encouraged,
and keep you empowered throughout the year. Check It out!

What are your goals worth to you? What is it worth to
create the life you've always wanted? Get the info and make
an informed decision, but HURRY! We start THIS WEEK! Take
action and register at:

#3  Think Right Now!
The Best Tools for Personal Growth I've Found!
      http://philiphumbert.com/go/TRN.htm

Many of you have purchased these audio programs to increase
sales, set and achieve goals or improve diet, health and
fitness and you know how good they are! My clients turned
me on to these CD's several months ago and I'm incredibly
impressed. I strongly urge you to jump on this! Top
achievers in every field listen to audio programs. They
imagine themselves winning, getting new records and living
the life they truly WANT, and they do it by visualizing
their victories in advance with the help of Mike's
programs. These are fantastic, both for yourself and as
gifts. Grab these!

#3   Got a Website?
       Earn Passive Income!
       http://philiphumbert.com/go/1A.htm

Over the years, I've paid lots of money for shopping carts,
autoresponders and systems that were supposed to help me
serve my subscribers and make money from my website. None
of them worked, or more accurately they worked, but they
were complex, confusing and didn't work very well. Then I
discovered Don Schnure and the amazing programs he's put
together. They work! They are powerful, EASY to use, and
they let me automate my newsletter, my affiliate programs
and my shopping cart, with no hassle! I love this! And, you
can use it for 30 days to check it out. Highly recommended!

7. Humor:    Microsoft vs. GM

The following list is old and probably some sort of "urban
legend" or whatever, but it's cute. Whoever thought it up
certainly gets points for creativity! Please don't send me
email saying Bill Gates never said this and GM never
replied. I know! But one of my regular sources of humor,
Paul Vogt, sent it to me and I enjoyed it. I hope you do,
too!

At a recent computer expo, Bill Gates reportedly compared
the computer industry with the auto industry and stated,
"If GM had kept up with technology like the computer
industry has, we would all be driving $25.00 cars that got
1,000 miles to the gallon."

In response to Bill's comments, General Motors issued a
press release stating: If GM had developed technology like
Microsoft, we would all be driving cars with the following
characteristics:

1. For no reason whatsoever, your car would crash now and then.

2. Every time they repainted the lines in the road, you
would have to buy a new car.

3. Occasionally your car would die on the freeway for no
reason. You would have to pull over to the side of the
road, close all of the windows, shut off the car, restart
it and open the windows before you could continue. For some
reason you would simply accept this.

4. Occasionally, executing a maneuver such as a left turn
would cause your car to shut down and refuse to restart, in
which case you would have to reinstall the engine.

5. Macintosh would make a car that was powered by the sun,
was reliable, five times as fast and much easier to drive -
but would run on only five percent of the roads.

6. The oil, water, temperature, and alternator warning
lights would be replaced by a single "This Car Has
Performed An Illegal Operation!" warning light.

7 . The airbag system would ask "Are you sure?" before
deploying.

8. Occasionally, for no reason whatsoever, your car would
lock you out and refuse to let you in until you
simultaneously lifted the door handle, turned the key and
grabbed hold of the radio antenna.

9. Every time a new car was introduced car buyers would
have to learn how to drive all over again because none of
the controls would operate in the same manner as the old car.

10. You'd have to press the "Start" button to turn the engine off.
