1. The One-Minute TIP
Notice when you run out of time, energy or skills, and
don't do that to yourself very often. Give yourself plenty
of "margin" around the edges of your life! Once in a while,
life demands a "bit more" from us, and if you have enough
margin, you can handle it with class and good humor. Manage
your life so there is plenty of margin around the edges.
It's the stuff fun is made of!
2. Welcome Notes
I usually like to start these notes with a cheerful
observation about spring or whatever, but this week I want
to jump right into two very important business items.
The first is that we are quickly getting to the wire on our
World Class Life Conference in May and you "need" to
register! This week I had a troubling conversation with
someone who is an avid TIPS reader and very interested in
the WCL, but obviously hadn't read anything about it! I
answered his questions and he registered.
PLEASE check this out! Visit the website, take a few
minutes to read the description, and get the free report,
"4 Steps to a World Class Life" (use the box in the top-
right corner) and if this is your time, sign up! We only
have a few spots left and many of you deserve, want, and
are "ready" for this, but haven't taken the time to
consider it. Don't let this slip by! Take ten minutes, read
and decide - and consider bringing your spouse or a friend!
This is a wonderful time for couples to design the future
they truly want! It's at:
Secondly, my friend, mentor and colleague, Michael Angier
is doing a huge "tax sale" on dozens of products, reports
and resources from SuccessNet.org. A few are already sold
out, but everything's on sale at drastic reductions. You
can save hundreds on motivation, problem-solving, planning
tools and more, at:
3: The Margins of a Great Life
This will go out on April 15th, the traditional income tax
day in the U.S. This year, we actually have extra time
because of the weekend, but I imagine folks across the
country "sweating bullets" because of the historic
association with today's "deadline."
Here's a my advice: Don't do that to yourself!
We all have lots of deadlines and boundaries in our lives.
The good part is that we usually know what they are. No one
is surprised that taxes are due on April 15th. No one
forgets the major holidays or their kid's birthdays. What
we DO forget is to manage our lives so that we have plenty
of "margin" around these things.
We forget to plan and manage our lives so that we have the
resources we need. We forget to budget so we have the time,
money or energy we need, when the time comes. We forget to
manage our own lives well.
NOTHING IS MORE IMPORTANT than taking charge of your
One of the most important principles of creating and living
a GREAT life is maintaining plenty of "margin" or "reserve"
around your life.
Margin refers to having plenty of time, space, money,
energy, skills and tools around you at all times. Margin
refers to handling whatever life throws at you with grace
and humor, skill and patience.
When we are low on "margin" we become stressed. We become
depressed, angry, anxious or confused. We get over-whelmed
and eventually, it effects our health. Our blood pressure
goes up; our quality of life goes down. We eat more and
exercise less. We become tired and sluggish, which is a
sign that our margins are even more compressed. It becomes
a vicious (and deadly) cycle.
People with plenty of "margin" in their lives laugh more.
They have more fun, and they get more done. They are far
more productive because they have the tools they need. They
have the skills, or know who to call. They manage their
energy so they "show up" when life calls on them. They take
care of the important things, their health, their
relationships, their finances and their dreams.
Margin is the key to a great life. So, how do we get more
margin in our lives?
First, do less. Millions of us seem addicted to "drama and
excitement" in our lives. We schedule every minute, then
seem surprised when things go wrong. Slow down! You can't
do it all anyway, so pick and choose wisely. Do less and
enjoy it more.
Second, respect your needs. We are all unique in how we
process life. Some need more sleep, others have energy to
burn. I "need" time to read every day. I don't know why and
I don't know if that's "good" or "bad," but my life works
better if I honor that particular "need." What are your
needs? What brings you joy?
Third, be smart about your life. Tell the truth about what
you want, what you value. Notice what energizes and excites
you. Avoid things that exhaust or upset you. Arrange your
schedule to suit you. If you're a morning person, great! If
you're a night-owl, do your best work at midnight. Honor
Notice the times when (and where) you run out of time,
energy or skills and don't do that to yourself very often.
From time to time, life demands an unexpected "bit more"
and if you have enough margin, you can handle it with class
and good humor. But if you get stressed very often, watch
out! Manage your life so there is plenty of margin around
the edges. It's the stuff fun is made of!

4. Quotes of the Week
"How wonderful it is that nobody need wait a single moment
to improve the world."
-- Anne Frank
"No person was ever honored for what he received. Honor has
been the reward for what he gave."
-- Calvin Coolidge
"The greatest discovery of my generation is that a human
being can alter his life by altering his attitudes of mind!"

5. Strictly Business: Selling is the Art of Serving
There are many ways to sell. You can lie to the customer,
you can persuade the customer, you can wear the customer
down. You can even trick them. But only briefly, and only
We have all been the victim of high pressure sales tactics
at one time or another. We have all made a purchase that
disappointed us, and we all remember those times. We
remember, and we don't go back.
You cannot build a sustainable business simply on sales. Of
course, sales are important, but in the long run it is not
sales, but service that creates sustainable profits. If
your product SERVES the customer, they will return. If your
goods and services make the customer's life easier, richer,
better, more productive, healthier or happier, your fortune
is assured. Fail to serve, and in the long run you will
Many people have observed that your business, your fortune,
your reputation and ultimately your success are all based
on your ability to serve others. The more people you serve,
and the better you serve them, the more you make. "You can
get anything you want in life, by helping enough other
people to get what they want in life."
We often focus on marketing and talk about the "reach' of
our advertising or our market "penetration" and all of that
is good and right. In order to serve others, you must first
let them know you exist.
But never confuse marketing and advertising with the
ultimate requirement that your business SERVE the customer.
In the end, your ads may be cute or memorable, your
marketing may be impressive, but only SERVICE really
6. Resources and Tools for YOUR Success!
#1 HUGE Tax Sale on SuccessNet Resources!
Help Michael Solve His Problem by Solving Your Own!
Turning Problems into Win-Win Solutions!
(Sale Ends this Tuesday!)
My friend Michael Angier gave me some good news, bad news,
good news the other day. Seems his company, SuccessNet, had
an exceptional year in 2006.
The bad news is he didn't send Uncle Sam enough for his
estimated taxes, and he has to cut a very big check on the
17th of this month. So he's running a sale that will help
you save a LOT and make writing his check to the IRS a lot
less painful for him.
The good news is he has drastically slashed prices on
almost all of his great products.
As you may know, SuccessNet is one of the most trusted
sources for personal and professional development on the
web. For the past 11 years, they've been helping great
people and great companies become even better.
I wanted to alert you to this rare opportunity to grab some
very helpful products at clearance prices. This is your
chance to save on a boatload of books, programs and other
resources all designed to help you excel--in your job, your
business and your personal life. You'll find products on
prosperity, business building, motivation, productivity,
goals, focus--and a whole lot more.
I can personally vouch for SuccessNet. They consistently
under-promise and over-deliver. Michael Angier and his team
are the real deal. Some of the packages and items have
limited quantities so I urge you to act quickly. Just go to
this page and see which items will help you the most.
#2 The 12th Annual World Class Life(tm) Conference
May 17-19th in Beautiful Wisconsin!
If not now, when?
If not you, who?
The most successful people in the world know who they are
and where they are going. Living well can be defined as
living "a life of one's own." Too many of us spend our
lives working hard, racing from here to there and chasing
other people's goals! Don't let that happen to you! You
DESERVE time to focus on yourself! You deserve time to
clarify your major purpose and highest aspirations in life!
You deserve practical, powerful strategies to make your
dreams come true!
Of course you do! And the winners in life TAKE the time.
They INVEST in themselves, their skills and their goals.
They network with the best people they can find. They
attend the seminars. They plot strategy and make sure they
are "on course" and focused on their most important
A great life does not happen by accident or by working
"harder" and hoping for the best. Success in life - total,
balanced, fulfilling success - is the logical result of
doing the right things, in the right order, at the right
time. The WCL has been THE turning point for many, many
people over the years. It gives you the tools and the time,
the space and permission to focus on what you truly want
for this one and only life. It gives you strategies that
work, and the inspiration to work them. This May, make the
commitment to create and live the life you truly want!

#3 Think Right Now!
The Best Tools for CHANGE I've Found!
Many of you have purchased these audio programs to increase
sales, lose weight, set and achieve goals or improve diet,
health and fitness and you know how good they are! My
clients turned me on to these CD's several months ago and
I'm incredibly impressed. I strongly urge you to jump on
this! Top achievers in every field listen to audio
programs. They imagine themselves winning, getting new
records and living the life they truly WANT, and they do it
by visualizing their victories in advance with the help of
Mike's programs. These are fantastic, both for yourself and
as gifts. Grab these!
#4 Got a Website?
Earn Passive Income!
Over the years, I've paid lots of money for shopping carts,
autoresponders and systems that were supposed to help me
serve my subscribers and make money from my website. None
of them worked, or more accurately they worked, but they
were complex, confusing and didn't work very well. Then I
discovered Don Schnure and the amazing programs he's put
together. They work! They are powerful, EASY to use, and
they let me automate my newsletter, my affiliate programs
and my shopping cart, with no hassle! I love this! And, you
can use it for 30 days to check it out. Highly recommended!
7. Humor: Comments About Man's Best Friend
As most subscribers know, my dog (Cody) and I are best friends
and he regularly helps me do my work, expand my world and
enjoy nature. This week, Karen Mitchell sent me these quotes
about our relationship with these wonderful animals and I thought
I'd pass them along. Any cat lovers out there who'd like equal time?
Send me your thoughts!
No matter how little money and how few possessions you own,
having a dog makes you rich.
-- Louis Sabin
To err is human; to forgive, canine.
Money will buy you a pretty good dog, but it won't buy the
wag of his tail.
-- Henry Wheeler Shaw
If you are a dog and your owner suggests that you wear a
sweater... suggest that he wear a tail.
-- Fran Lebowitz
You can say any fool thing to a dog, and the dog will give
you this look that says, "My God, you're RIGHT! I never
would've thought of that!"
-- Dave Barry
If your dog doesn't like someone, you probably shouldn't either.
Old dogs, like old shoes, are comfortable. They might be a
bit out of shape and a little worn around the edges, but
they fit well.
-- Bonnie Wilcox
The more people I meet, the more I like my dog.
In order to really enjoy a dog, one doesn't merely train
him to be semi-human. The point is to open oneself to the
possibility of becoming partly a dog.
-- Edward Hoagland
Dogs are our link to paradise. They don't know evil or
jealousy or discontent. To sit with a dog on a hillside on
a glorious afternoon is to be back in Eden, where doing
nothing was not boring -- it was peace.
-- Milan Kundera
When you feel dog tired at night, it may be because you've
growled all day long.
A really companionable dog is an accident of nature. You
can't get it by breeding for it, and you can't buy it with
money. It just happens along.
-- E B White
I think we are drawn to dogs because they are the
uninhibited creatures we might be if we weren't certain we
-- George Bird Evans
Even the tiniest Poodle or Chihuahua is still a wolf at heart.
-- Dorothy Hinshaw
Dogs never talk about themselves but listen to you while
you talk about yourself, and keep up an appearance of being
interested in the conversation.
-- Jerome K. Jerome
Things that upset a terrier may pass virtually unnoticed by
a Great Dane.
-- Smiley Blanton
I've seen a look in dogs' eyes, a quickly vanishing look of
amazed contempt, and I am convinced that basically dogs
think humans are nuts.
-- John Steinbeck
You may have a dog that won't sit up, roll over or even
cook breakfast, not because she's too stupid to learn how
but because she's too smart to bother.
-- Rick Horowitz
My husband and I are either going to buy a dog or have a
child. We can't decide whether to ruin our carpets or ruin
-- Rita Rudner
When I am wrong, he is delighted to forgive.
When I am angry, he clowns to make me smile.
When I am happy, he is joy unbounded.
When I am a fool, he ignores it.
When I succeed, he brags.
Without him, I am only another human.
With him, I am all powerful.
I know a secret comfort and a private peace.
He has brought me understanding where I was ignorant.
His head on my knee can heal my human hurts.
His presence is protection against dark and unknown things.
He has promised to wait for me in case I need him.
And I expect I will, as I always have.
-- Gene Hill
