1. The One-Minute TIP
What are your dreams? Whatever they are, only two things keep you from
them: how you use your mind, and how you use your time.
============================================
2. Welcome Notes
Isn’t it amazing how life can change in an instant? Ten days ago, Mary
and I were “sick and tired of being sick and tired.” I wrote last week,
we both had bad colds or flu, and it wasn’t much fun. Then, we got
better! This week we flew to Las Vegas, and you can read more about that
below.
Sometimes, tragedy strikes in an instant. We all know of sudden
accidents, illness or disasters like Katrina or the fires in California.
Fortunately, it also works the other way around! Rarely that means
someone wins the lottery or finds gold in their back yard, but more
often life turns in a moment when “opportunity knocks.” We meet someone,
or make a new connection. We accept a new job, or leave an old one. We
read a book or attend a conference that opens new vistas for us. Our
imagination is turned on and life is forever changed.
Two brief points. First, since tragedy does strike, never postpone
saying, “I love you.” Hug the people in your life. Write the notes and
make the calls. Life’s short. Leave nothing undone. Second, opportunity
does knock, but it doesn’t always knock twice. When your chance arrives,
seize it! Be open to miracles. As the song says, “Life is a Cabaret” and
you want to dance every dance. Don’t sit on your hands waiting to be
asked! Get up and go!

3: Dreams Come True in Las Vegas
This has been a wonderful week for Mary and me! After being sick last
week, we feel great and flew to Las Vegas for a few days. We’ve had
steak at Delmonico’s, an amazing French dinner by Joёl Robuchon at The
Mansion (the most expensive dinner I’ve ever had and worth every penny!)
and seen a couple of shows. Mary got to swoon to Barry Manilow (yeah, I
admit he was ok) and I loved the energy of the Blue Man Group. What a
treat!
The most amazing things to me were the flying athletes of Cirque du
Soleil (if you have the opportunity be sure to see them!) and the chance
for a middle-aged bald guy like me to have dinner in a magnificent
French restaurant with one of the most beautiful, sexiest women on the
planet! Mary bought a new dress and as we used to say, she “knocked my
socks off!”
Ok, so I’m bragging and name-dropping and being rude. The politicians
have perfected the “non-apology apology” so in that spirit, I’m truly
sorry if my rude behavior offends anyone! <g>
I actually do have a serious point to all this. Growing up as a
preacher’s kid in Wisconsin, I would never have dreamed any of this was
possible for me. Back then, good Baptist kids didn’t dance or even go to
movies! We weren’t poor, but money was very tight. Mary and I spent more
this week than my Dad made in an entire year back then. Think about
that!
So, what do would you like to do, or see or visit or celebrate that
seemed “impossible” just a few years ago?
When I was a kid, vacations meant visiting relatives or camping and
cooking around the fire. Just a few years ago, Mary and I celebrated
with dinner at a local restaurant or maybe a weekend at a nearby resort.
But we are blessed to live in the age of affluence and opportunity.
The internet has opened the world to e-commerce, instant communication
and partnerships. Discount brokers and online trading make investing
available to anyone, and while real-estate investing is not nearly as
easy as those late-night infomercials suggest, with skill and patience
and determination, it can be done. More people, especially women and
people with “limited resources” are opening more businesses than ever
before.
It can be done! So, what are your dreams?
I haven’t cleared this with him, so I hope he’ll forgive me, but my
friend and colleague, Vic Johnson, often tells his own story. Less than
ten years ago, he was broke, living on pennies, driving a borrowed,
broken down old car. I won’t go into details, but trust me, his life was
“bottomed out.” Fortunately, he knew his life did not have to stay that
way.
He realized that two things separated him from success: How he used his
mind, and how he used his time. He began reading (and re-reading) books
that changed his thinking. He began hanging out with successful people
and using his time the way they used their time. He invested money he
“couldn’t afford” in great coaching. He began doing what successful
people were doing. In ten years he’s become a multi-millionaire. No
surprise. The logical, systematic result of doing the right things, in
the right way at the right time.
Vic often uses the phrase that, “You’re just one idea away from a
million dollars,” and nothing proves that more than his own life!
Now, Mary will tell you and I have to admit that I’m still a
cheap-skate. In many ways, I’m still that poor kid living in Wisconsin,
and paying over a thousand dollars for dinner this week took my
breath away. I doubt that will ever be “normal” for me! Two of my heroes
are Sam Walton (founder of Wal-Mart) driving his ancient, battered Ford
pick-up, and Warren Buffet still living in his modest home in Omaha.
But it is nice to know that when we want to go to Vegas and splurge, or
visit Antarctica like we did a couple years ago, or fly to Paris for a
special anniversary, we can do it. It’s all possible!
What are your dreams? Whatever they are, only two things keep you from
them: how you use your mind, and how you use your time.

5. Strictly Business: The Law of Large Numbers
This week I talked with a client who was concerned about her low
“conversion rate,” meaning the low number of sales from the number of
prospects she had. She recently offered a free seminar and I asked how
many prospects she’d gotten from that and she replied, “48.”
Given that her professional services are not appropriate for everyone
and that her fees are relatively high, I would suspect a conversion of
ten to twenty percent would be reasonable. Unfortunately, that only
gives her five to ten paying customers, and that’s not enough. What to
do?
I talked with her about two key problems. First, she needs every paying
customer she can get. She has a mortgage and kids and bills to pay, so
when she talks with prospects, there is always a subtle message that
says, “BUY! Please BUY!” That’s very unattractive and sends up red flags
for most people. Usually it’s well hidden and most people can’t identify
exactly what’s going on, but they sense when we need a sale and they run
for the hills.
Beyond that, she ends up working with second and third-tier clients,
people she would not normally choose as ideal clients. Sometimes there
may be a personality conflict, or their needs may not fit her skills
precisely, but she ends up working with them anyway. That’s a very hard
way to make a living!
I suggested that her sales techniques may be fine. The problem is her
marketing program. She needs more people in her “funnel!” If instead of
48 prospects she had a thousand prospects, she’d be picking and choosing
only the most ideal clients and her work with be more profitable and a
lot more fun.
No matter what you do or sell, lots of people need and want to buy from
you! The problem is that most of them don’t know you exist. Or they
don’t know how to contact you. Or, they don’t know enough to be
comfortable hiring you. The solution is the Law of Large Numbers.
Whatever you do, find a way to tell lots of people! Write articles or
up-grade your web presence. Make speeches or attend more networking
luncheons. Throw an open house or use direct mail. Your approach will
depend on your preferences, your budget and the nature of your work, but
the key is not “selling” to a few prospects. The key is letting lots of
people know you exist so they can decide for themselves that you are the
one they want to hire.

#3 Got a Website?
Earn Passive Income!
http://philiphumbert.com/go/1A.htm
Over the years, I've paid lots of money for shopping carts,
autoresponders and systems that were supposed to help me serve my
subscribers and make money from my website. None of them worked, or more
accurately they worked, but they were complex, confusing and didn't work
very well. Then I discovered Don Schnure and the amazing programs he's
put together. They work! They are powerful, EASY to use, and they let me
automate my newsletter, my affiliate programs and my shopping cart, with
no hassle! I love this! And, you can use it for 30 days to check it out.
Highly recommended!
