1. The One-Minute TIP


What questions do you use to jump-start your day? What
questions do you use to open doors, make you smile, and
find solutions? To a remarkable degree, the questions we ask
will determine the answers we find and kind of life we live.
To achieve more, ask more and better questions.

2. Welcome Notes


Last week, Mary and I took one of our day-trips to the
mountains. Apparently I've written about these more than I
realized because I think we've become slightly famous for
them.

Our goal was to see the fall colors, have some fun, enjoy
the mountains, and let Tucker swim in Suttle Lake. What a
great day! We drove an old road that was a wagon trail in
the 1870's, and Mother Nature put on a show for us! The
Aspen, Maples, Oaks and dozens of other species were all
dressed in their autumn best. We shared some sort of gooey
"New York Style" (???) meat-and-cheese sandwich in an Old
West saloon, and in the afternoon Tucker learned to dive
off a dock. (Can't let those darn tennis balls swim away!)

What could be better than ending a great day by watching the
sunset over a beautiful lake, with the Cascade Mountains in
the background, the love of my life beside me and a tired,
wet dog at my feet? Mary even let me top it all off with a
cigar! That's my version of living large! (What's yours?)

Sure, I'm bragging! It was fun and if it inspires you to do
the same, I couldn't be happier. How about we have a contest
to see who can have the most fun? That's a competition I
could get into!

At least once a month, gather your loved ones, take some
time and create nice memories. It seems to be a good thing,
and I suspect it is somehow connected to achieving real
success and living a GREAT life. Highly recommended!

3: How Could You Achieve More and Do It Faster?


There is a theory that all human behavior is a response to
the questions we ask ourselves. When we are hungry or feel a
bit chilly, we ask simple questions like, "What's to eat?"
or "Where did I leave my sweater?"

In more complicated situations, we ask more complex
questions, like "What career to do I want?" or "How could
I make more money?"

As we answer our own questions, we naturally focus on
realistic, ACTION-oriented solutions, and we move forward
quickly.

Everyday, we ask ourselves thousands of questions. We ask
"Why do I have such bad luck" or, "How could I make this
sale?" As we ask and answer these questions, we make
assumptions about the world around us, and they become
the basis for our actions.

The key is to be VERY aware of the questions we ask. Many
of the most common questions we ask are not at all helpful
because they have NO good answer. Think about how your mind
works and the things you focus on with questions like:

*** Why does this always happen to me?
*** How come I never get a break?
*** How come nobody likes me?
*** How come things never change?

The problem with questions like these is that the brain
takes them seriously and tries to find the answers! (Think
about that!) It comes up with arguments about why you can't
change and why nobody likes you Ė even though you CAN
change and LOTS of people like you just fine!

I'm convinced that the questions we ask ourselves are
vitally important keys to predicting our success in life.
To change your health, your finances, your love life or
anything else, change the questions you ask yourself!

I start almost every day by sorting through a small stack of
3x5 cards, with one positive question written on each card.
This morning I counted them, and my stack happens to have 17
questions in it. (The number varies as I add or replace
questions based on how well they seem to be working for
me.) Here are four that were on top of my stack this
morning:

1. What specific do-able actions would move me toward
my goals today?

2. What could I do to make Mary happy today?

3. What am I most grateful for this morning?

4. How could I increase our income by $5000 this month?

I do not share these questions because they are particularly
special--you might come up with more powerful, more
motivating, more helpful examples--but they do make me smile
and they do encourage me to get moving. They help me focus
on my goals and help me think of creative, positive actions.

5. Strictly Business: What Gets Measured, Gets Done


This powerful little quote from Edward Deming sums up one of
the most important distinctions between high achievers and
the also-rans in life.

Too many of us dream big dreams and work hard every day,
without measuring to see if we are making any progress!
Logically, if you are building a business, saving for
retirement, trying to improve your health, or to achieve any
other goal in life, you need to know if it's working!

And yet, many professionals and business owners forget this
key step. They "try" an advertising campaign or "try" a new
sales person. They "try" changing their hours or raising (or
lowering) their prices, but without adequate records and
good testing, they donít really know what works and what
doesnít. As a result, too often they keep on working hard,
but are spinning their wheels, wasting time and going
nowhere.

The key to making progress is to get very, very good at
measuring what works (so you can do more of it) and
measuring what does not work (so you can stop it).
Successful people track daily performance. They use charts
and graphs to track their results. They compare results from
one year to the next, and measure their productivity against
their colleagues and competitors.

Almost any graph or list or chart is better than none. I
find many people "wait until I have time" to design an
elegant spreadsheet or database, and that's usually a
mistake. Start with a piece of paper (perhaps a calendar),
and a pen. Chart your results day by day, and periodically,
stop to compare. If you like what you see, keep doing it. If
not, make some changes. It really can be that simple.

7. Humor: Kids and Bible-Story Humor


Funny answers to Bible questions have been around a long
time, and in most cases I seriously doubt little children
actually wrote them. But whoever wrote this list did a great
job! My friend, Paul Vogt, sent this collection and they are
not intended to be sacrilegious or offensive in any way,
just fun. I hope you find them as cute as I did.


In the first book of the bible, Guinness, God got tired of
creating the world so he took the sabbath off.

Adam and Eve were created from an Apple tree. Noah's wife
was called Joan of Ark. Noah built an ark and the animals
came on in pears.

Lot's wife was a pillar of salt during the day, but a ball
of fire during the night.

Sampson was a strongman who let himself be led astray by a
Jezebel like Delilah.

Samson slayed the Philistines with the axe of the Apostles.

Moses led the Jews to the Red sea where they made unleavened
bread which is bread without any ingredients.

The Egyptians were all drowned in the dessert. Afterwards,
Moses went up to Mount Cyanide to get the ten ammendments.

The first commandment was when Eve told Adam to eat the
apple.

The seventh Commandment is thou shalt not admit adultery.

Moses died before he ever reached Canada. Then Joshua led
the Hebrews in the battle of Geritol.

The greatest miracle in the bible is when Joshua told his
son to stand still and he obeyed him.

David was a Hebrew king who was skilled at playing the liar.

Solomon, one of Davidís sons, had 300 wives and 700
porcupines.

When Mary heard she was the mother of Jesus, she sang the
Magna Carta.

Jesus was born because Mary had an immaculate contraption.

Jesus enunciated the Golden Rule, which says to do unto
others before they do one to you.

The people who followed the Lord were called the 12 decibels.

The epistels were the wives of the apostals.

One of the oppossums was St. Matthew who was also a taxi-man.

St. Paul cavorted to Christianity, he preached holy
acrimony, which is another name for marriage.

Christians have only one spouse. This is called monotony.
